Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Should Nintendo bring back Nintendo World Cup?

Now that EA's FIFA is out of the picture (for a while at a minimum), should NIntendo bring back "Nintendo World Cup" to attract a soccer audience?

It was a really fun, arcade-like game on the NES. Which is typically Nintendo. If Nintendo brings it back, then it wouldn't have to batter with 3rd party support for access too this audience. And they need a good football franchise to really take Europe, where they aren't very strong.

It shouldn't be difficult to get the (full) rights to this franchise. According to Wikipedia it's owned by "Million" (bought up the rights in 1996 apparently), who trying to make money of their IP's like them.

Nintendo already has a soccer franchise, Mario Strikers.

To be effective it would have to be a non-Mario soccer game.

It's more for the "bro" audience - the FIFA audience. It can be colourfull and such, but best not have Mario Style.

I reckon they should do a serious soccer game for sure as well as a Gran Turismo type game.

True, i would also say they would have to buy that new "Project cars" franchise if possible.

or they could promote PES on their console heavily, you know strike a deal with konami or something. that way its a win win for nintendo and konami. WiiU would have a good football game and konami would gain ground on Fifa

World cup was one of my first games ever...i loved it

i would love to see a new game, but i must say Mario strikers is a product that really works, so killing a working product to revive a dead one that you dont really know if its gonna work doesnt sound good to me

Is there any word that PES will come out on Wii U at this point? I haven't seen it for myself.

Nintendo's strategy is striking exclusive deals at this moment. If they can make a deal which turns the new PES exclusive to their console, this could work for Nintendo's strategy.

If else, they might be better off reviving the World Cup franchise. They would have full control of that.

but would they be able to match the quality of PES? i really doubt it. they could talk with konami and bring PES to the WiiU. PES has been trying to catch up with Fifa in terms of sales. this could give PES a much needed (even if small) advantage. as i said, its a win win

Fifa is more arcade than PES, how come PES would find any audience on Wii U if Fifa never found audience on Nintendo console ?
