Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Luigi's Mansion 2 has brought the 3DS to the point of no return in America

I'm actually really surprised by the success of LM Dark Moon and Lego City for 3DS...
It does seem to be Luigi's Mandion that's really made the difference for the 3DS...
Having seen a fair amount of commercials for The Chase Begins and DKCR3D, I assume we will see similar numbers for the time being...
I wonder how games like Kid Icarus and Kingdom Hearts 3D will sell now with a bigger audience...
This topic reminds me that I have to pick up Dark Moon and SMT Soul Hackers...

I've always wondered why publishers don't split marketing budgets into two separate marketing campaigns. One for launch and the other for the future when a first party AAA system seller is released later on down the line.

I will wait to see NPD numbers on Thursday, VGC is way too unreliable on their 3DS estimates.

Is 3DS still tracking ahead of DS in the same timeframe?

I think so, but probably not for long. About 2 years in to the DS' lifespan is when it started crushing 400-500k a month in NPD numbers in non-holiday months like Feb/March/etc. 3DS won't be able to keep up for much longer.

45k-50k a week for the 3DS as a new "high" baseline for the 3DS gets them up to maybe 180-200k a month here, so at this pace, it'll be falling behind the original DS fairly quickly.

Keep in mind this is not a "perfectly aligned" launch. Week 1 represents each console's first week on sale in any region (America for the DS, Japan for the 3DS).

"and this just in, the doomsayers from 2011 are not where to be seen."

The 3DS is only going to get better and better. It really hasn't reached its full potential. The greatest games are usually released later in the life cycle. There hasn't been one actual Square Enix game for 3DS that wasn't a remake or a cheap little game.(FF Theatrhythm) Pokemon hasn't made a real debut yet, no Mario + Luigi, no Kirby, no Yoshi, no Dragon Quest, the 3DS will have a prosperous time while it's here.
