Forums - Website Topics - How is this issue justified on VGC? Rule is to be civil

Dont you ever wonder why people "attack" you JayWood? Think about it.

Anyway.

If I told you to fuck off, that would be against the rules.

Saying "fucking" in the middle of a sentence? If that becomes against the rules then you will succeed in your obvious mission of getting rid of people. If it wasnt already obvious enough with your mass reporting of petty issues.

Swearing is natural. This is a public forum. Anyone from anywhere can join the discussion. Anyone from anywhere can cereate discussion.

What next? Banning religion talk? Political talk? Sport rivalry talk?

what the FUCK are you guys going on about! lol. seriously jaywood, you compain alot. unless someone is directly swearing at you than its fine. you get offended if someone uses the word fucking in a sentence? thats normal these days man! chill the FUCK out!!

So now you want people to be moderating for cursing? You should take it easy on reporting every little thing to the mods and grow a thicker skin.

harden the F$*& up

Just to add to the weight of public opinion, it was not an insult directed at you. Direct insults in any form, swearing or not, should not be tolerated.

You claim these posts to be uncivil based on the fact that they contain swearing but many civil conversations will include swearing, swearing isn't necessarily pejorative. You claim that they are in anger, but again, anger isn't inherently uncivil if it is a justifiable or appropriate response .

Furthermore, you have inferred these posts are expressions of anger, personally I believe they are expressions of incredulity.

Respectable sites don't allow this kind of stuff.  All it does is make these sites look bad.

What's your definition of a "respectable" site? Let me guess....sites that don't allow cursing.

Although I do not really agree with JayWood2010 on this topic, I can clearly see you missed his point entirely and what you are doing is borderline flaming & baiting.

Borderline flaming/trolling? Please tell me your joking. Tell me how my response counts as trolling or flaming. Unless you're exaggerating Jaywood's behavior for satire. In which case, well done.

It isn't quite there yet, but the start with a question and putting respectable in quotations followed by an absolute statement that actually is not what the OP intended on saying is pretty close to flaming/baiting.

Again?

Cursing is a part of everyday talk. The cursing was not directed at you there...it was added for emphasis like many people like to do.

Cursing is NOT a part of every day talk.  It may be where you're from and in your ciricle of friends, but in general cursing is unnecessary, uncouth, and uncivil.

It's used because the people using it can't or don't have the words to actually decribe how they feel or what they think.

I mentioned it in the mod chat after you PM'd me.
we haven't reached an agreement at the time I left, though it seemed like more of us thought that you were being hypercritical.
Cursing itself is fine here as long as it doesn't become rampant.

A while back it was even allowed to tell people to STFU or GTFO (under the Machina regime) but we seem to look more harshly into that nowadays.
You said that you reported these kinds of posts. I can say for myself that I don't remove these reports where I'm not certain and I don't think other mods would do that without asking about it in the mod chat.
Therefore you can be sure that enough people saw it and that it was decided to be harmless.

That's all I wanted was an answer.  I know that people have different views on these type of things but I don't see this as being civil.  I don't report every comment that curses but If i see something posted out of anger I do.  Personally I don't think you can justify this behavior as being civil but that is my opinion.  You can lock this thread now if you want.

Fine.  It's being locked now.

People need to told they are stupid and wrong sometimes. Most of the time you cant say it civilly. It's impossible. I disagree with the rule and think it needs to be removed. If people are disrespectful they will be banned soon enough for other reasons.

Example: Zero2099 keeps saying people delusional and haters and will "find a cure syndrome" but I haven't reported him for being disrespectful yet. Why? Its a dumb fucking rule
