I've been wondering this for a while, but...why? Am I reading the chart wrong?
Because by my estimate is is currently over 100p ahead of Smash 4 combined at the same point in time. Ultimate is about three weeks ahead of Smash 4 and showing signs of picking up. Why the anxiety about Ultimates performance, when so far, by all metrics it is doing great?

I made this same comment (last week?) - the game is trending the same way as the previous version, but with a much higher baseline. I see no reason why it wouldn't at least come close to surpassing Smash 4, with a good chance of achieving that goal.

It's ahead now, but it's falling behind more and more each week. It's picking up steam but BARELY. If the 3DS version is picking up steam faster than Ultimate by itself, what happens when the Wii U version picks up steam too? Those 100 points it's ahead by won't matter much when you consider it's 1/10 of the 1042 points it needs to surpass Smash 4 at this point. It's just a tiny buffer, nothing more. Momentum is what matters, and it seems Nintendo Online might have killed that.
