I'm a bit surprised to see another 3DS game on here. I guess it would be weird if PQ2 didn't chart at all, but still. I wonder if Vita has any more games that will chart? Cart printing isn't discontinued in Japan yet if I recall. |
Comg isnt really representative of switch's software sales and Smash will be bigger in the West anyway.

True, I certainly don't think it'll flop or anything, even in Japan, but while COMG isn't representative of Switch in the larger market, any one game is representative of COMG's audience relative to itself within its place in the larger market, so comparing COMG performance of one game to another, while not a one-to-one comparison due to a shrinking physical games market and their shrinking number of stores, still counts for something, and can give you an idea of where the whole market is trending, even if it doesn't give you a precise ratio to weekly nationwide sales. If Smash is lagging behind its predecessors performances, that's a bad sign. Heck, it might end up lagging behind Splatoon 2's performance, which is more recent and on a smaller userbase of the same console, so it's more comparable but should show a positive trend. We really need it to beat Splatoon 2 if we expect to see it do especially well overall. Ultimate really has to knock it out of the park, it's mostly carrying the system in December.
But yeah, I don't think this means anything for the West. Smash looks on track in US preorders to sell comparable to RDR2 in the states, so I'm not worried about Western sales. I wouldn't necessarily say it'll be bigger in the West though, as Japan made up a sizable portion of Smash 4 sales, more than Europe actually.
