Pokemon pretty slow. I was thinking it would be the top game for the year, but it might not even be the biggest Nintendo game this year.

There's hope!

Freaking finally.Make sure you pick up the pace now XC!

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Xenoblade 2 is one point ahead of XBX and the original wont appear for 2 more days.

I guess that's something for XB2 to hang its hat on. Hopefully, being part of the launch year of the Switch will allow it to gain sales overtime, even if slowly. XB and XBX were released within the final years of their respective consoles and sold not too far from a million copies worldwide. If XB2 can be featured over the course of the Switch's life as among the must own titles or essential JRPG titles (along the likes of Project Octopath Traveler, DQXI, Lost Sphere, maybe something from Final Fantasy, SMTV, and whatever JRPG projects that will release in the future), more people will notice. Hell, even having one of its characters getting a Smash invite to the roster could do something.

COMG was so drastically wrong on Mario Odyssey that I've lost all faith in it as a predictor of first week sales.

that makes no sense, how can COMG be "wrong" at anything? they just list how many customer preorders they get at their stores

and if you interpret that data with the knowledge you have you can make fair estimates of possible 1st week performance

my personal observations are these:

Otaku games - usually 500-800:1 ratio

larger niche games - usually 800-1200:1 ratio

big western games - usually 1100-1500:1 ratio

jpn mainstream games with very little Otaku appeal - usually 1700-2000++:1 ratio

But we're reaching a point where we can no longer accurately compare COMG scores with previous releases. Whatever the ratio is, it's clear it's changed over the past 5 years.

Why so many people thought this?

Just look at Platinum or Emerald sales... Pokémon USUM never had a chance to become the best selling game of the year.

It's Pokemon in Japan with a massive install base.

People keep saying how impressive Zelda, Splatoon 2, and SMO is on such a small install base. Figure Pokemon on an install base 10 times as big could easily make top game.
