Tekken use to be so big. I mean wasnt it the king of the genre sales wises? Ibthink 1 entry even sold 10mil+ :o

Tekken 3 is reportedly the second biggest selling fighting game of all time according to Harada, only behind Smash Brawl

so yeah, it was very big at it's peak

Well SSB4 but if its split either way Tekken 3 is massive. Half of those sales is hard to get now lol

800k as the minimum is tbone², but cracking 50% for attach rate during launch week is feasible. The reason why this hasn't happened before is that it requires unique circumstances to come together all at the same time. Splatoon had a modest launch, but really caught on; as in really, really. Such a sales pattern results in much more explosive sales for a sequel. This is the software side. The hardware side is that the hardware must still be in its infancy, because that makes it easier to get above 50%.

I'm fully aware of how well Spatoon caught on. But expecting the sequel to achieve half of the original's lifetime sales in its first week on a brand new platform that hasn't even hit 2 million hardware sales is just detached from reality in my opinion.

50% attach rate is barely possibly with an enormous franchise like Mario Kart releasing under two months after platform launch. Four months is pushing it.

600k first week would be exceptionally fantastic on a 4-month-old platform with under 2 million sales. I don't think it's ever been done before! It's ridiculous for anyone to look at that and say "meh." I just don't remotely see why Splatoon has to be a Pokemon or Monster Hunter type of seller rather than an Animal Crossing type of seller.

And Monster Hunter sold under 600k fw! I just don't get it, not one bit.

Splatoon 2 could easily be the Japanese version of the BotW western release. Having over 100% attach ratio on its platform release, should not be very diffiicult for such franchise in Japan.

Splatoon 2 is the reason of Switch high sales and demand in Japan. The ratio is going to be very very high, 600k only is very low. 800k is the minimum at the moment.

800k minimum? O.o Im the optimistic guy here bro :p..I can see 1mil if switch is over 1.4mil by release. Hard to tell atm. All i know is if it does that big of an op first week with an install base of under 2mil we are looking at the king of japan.

How many weeks until Splatoon 2 launches? Around 8? It's definitely possible for it to be at 1.4m in Japan, especially if they supply consoles during Arms' launch.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

So when do we deem ARMS is gonna flop?

Ill say this. Itll be a bad sign if it doesnt pick up starting Monday. People will put its goals toward what splatoon did without realizing that splatoon is a once in a blue moon success.

Signs points towards Arms being much more successful in the west than in Japan. Anyway, 300k FW WW would already be a good opening for a new IP on a limited install base.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is an enchanced version of a game that sold more than 1m in Japan already, so there is that.

Plus, Splatoon is the kind of game that gets a lot of hype, much like MH and Pokémon, that's why people expect great FW numbers, as well as long legs (the first one had those and the craziness looks to still be on fleek).

Yeah, around 8. It would need to sell 500k units from now to reach 1.4m in Japan, which is 62.5k per week on average. I don't see it happening. Nintendo would need to double the supply they currently ship and a boost from Arms.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.
