The lack of games like World of Final Fantasy and The Last Guardian is definitely disappointing but honestly Monster Hunter Stories' performance should be up there amongst the most disappointing. Despite not being a mainline entry it looks like a huge effort and perhaps an even bigger one than the main games. I have no idea why it's not performing better. It's really weird to think it might not beat Monster Hunter Diary (PSP) which was a much cheaper effort.

My best guess is that pre-order incentives at other stores are eating away sales at COMG but then again it might not have that big of an impact. Still the ratio should be good. But even 2000:1 would give a rather weak performance. Anyone has any hindsight?

We have a slight idea what SQEX´s expectations are. Considering Final Fantasy Explorers sold 300k-400k units in Japan with no follow-up and  that the Bravely Second producer went on working in SQEXs new studio on Setsuna, that its sales are even worse surely wasn´t intended from the get go. World of Final Fantasy is a JRPG with seemingly good production values, this game not even charting in comg almost one month before launch is quite bad if we take into consideration how the mentioned games performances were judged by SQEX.

Monster Hunter Stories is a welcome experiment but gameplay and in aestetics there is little in common with what MH fans are looking for besides the use of the IP and unlike FF the aestetics have been pretty consistent in the mainline series overall. MHDiaries was a product of its time, launched at the peak of MHs popularity and surely not the norm, proofen by the most recent MHDiaries spinoff release. I guess it will at the very least sell decently.

It's just, we knew about Dragon Quest Heroes 2 so quickly after the first.  Omega Force are an absolute factory when it comes to producing games too, whereas I think DQB was an internal Square-Enix project?

It's possible though.  It's just a number of franchises that were 200k+ (Miku; SAO; Toukiden) aren't going to reach it going forward, so it needs to be a really big game and preferrably exclusive.  Vita just isn't getting those anymore.  Plus games that should be performing better (World of Final Fantasy) aren't.

Still, it's probably got a fair few 100k+ games left.

Maybe S-E learned not to announce sequels too early from DQH2. Combined with the current situation, there is a lot of games coming already so announcing "bigger" game like DQB2 would cannibalize the smaller ones, for example World of Final Fantasy needs all the attention it can get at the moment. Then there is the worldwide release of DQB which S-E wants to push.

Yea, it's sad how those franchises which already seemed to have a solid foundation to build on, just went bomba (exaggeration but you get it) or are heading there. World of Final Fantasy is actually pretty telling, Vita is just too risky.

I cannot imagine toilet-free life.

Kebabs have a unique attribute compared to other consumables. To unlock this effect you need to wolf down a big ass kebab really fast, like under 10 minutes or so and wait for the effect to kick in. If done correctly your movements should feel unbelievably heavy to the point where you literally cannot move at all.

So... when is Persona 6 coming?

Coming for the PS6 Trinity in 2026.

They will launch Persona 5 Golden Fes before that.

XV strikes back with a +2 on Monday. With this XV beats its previous pre-order record of 243 established a few days ago and matches both XIII-2 & LR for their respective days.

In fairness it's hard to keep up with all the delays these days!

I believe that World of FF has a better chance for the West to make a difference than Bravely Second and FF Explorers.

I don't think Square has had a real successful spinoff since the first Bravely Default (mild success) or Theatrhythm (mild success).

Is this the first time Monster Hunter went like this?

Many of the spins offs have huge difference in pre-orders and sales compared to the main line series.  In fact, I don't think any have even comes close to main line numbers.

I believe the spin-off game Yo-kai Watch Busters sold better through its first ten weeks on the Japanese market than the mainline Yo-kai Watch 3 has during the same time frame this year.

Didnt Default break the 1M?
