See you can say what you want about Final Fantasy XV, but it really was 13 franchise that did the damage to the brand, 13 was not well receieved in Japan compared to rest, it was actually the first place to give warning signs of the game (A lot of people were in denial at first, and just downright blamed Xbox360 for the changes, it was really fun times). 13 itself did fine (subjective), because of the brand, but it has just about as many 5s on amazon as it did 1s, and that is what damaged the brand. It is the same reason a lot of people I know have zero faith in Square now a days.

I think ultamitely they have to rebuild that relationship with the fanbase in that region of the world. If Final Fantasy XV is great not just good or passable (which it sadly is about 50/50 chance, since all of the warning signs are there; long development time, changing of teams, questionable cast direction), Final Fantasy XVI might actual have the first increase in the franchise.

This again....

People said that FFXII was bad as well, how come FFXIII managed to sell well after XII? And XII itself also did well, after people said X-2 sucked.

This is about Japan, so you do know XIII did sell worse compared to XII right, continuing the decline. If you truly believe the trilogy did no damage to the brand more power to you, but where I am standing I can see it in this pre-order thread.

yeah but FFXII didn't had anything to do with the decline. The decline was because of the handheld dominance.

Double Post (getting strange errors today)

I can agree with that, I also don't believe FFXII had a longing impact (positive or negative) that the trilogy had, but I was not going to write complex response, vs my response to you earlier.

So I went with the simple of saying it did not sell better.

Also, as i said some days ago, FF declining in Japan is nothing new. People made a fuss when FFXIII declined compared to FFXII but nobody mentioned that FFIX had a huge decline compared to FFVIII (for different reasons though). That's why, if FFXV fails to perform good in Japan (1+million) doesn't mean the end of the franchise in Japan.

I don't think any one is implying the end, just worrying some sign. I think it will do 1 million, but it being 50%-75% of Final Fantasy XIII is a clear indicator that they need to rebuild the franchise, unless of course they stop caring about what the Japanese thinks all together, and just focus on the west.

Speaking of FFXV it is now on number 6 on Amazon. As the release date approaches, it will go higher. I wouldn't be surprised if it hits the first spot at the end of August and stays there for two months. As i said, Amazon paints a different picture for FFXV compared to COMG. It never left the Top 20 since the release date got announced (so February) and this happens only to the 1m games.

The franchise was born in that way, different characters, different worlds, stories, enviroments, ability systems, but keeping the "core gameplay", that is (was) the philosophy of Final Fantasy.

Didnt know lunar, BoF, Golden sun and prolly hundreds rpg out there belong to FF series.

They don't, you are missing the point.

Final Fantasy probably inspired a lot of other RPGs, though.

I disagree, ever since it moved past 5 it was changed. Change isn't bad, it isn't always good either.

Outside of it being turn based, or at least close to it, the combat of FF is pretty different from one another. What all FF have in common, in my opinion, is having a great story, being a high fantasy game, and have a deep engaging battle system.

For me FF XV seems it wont achieve any of those however.Just my impressions though. Will wait reviews to have a more clear opinion.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
