Forums - Sales Discussion - COMG! Japan Pre-order Chart Thread - Daily updates!

What isn´t true? There aren´t many comparable western games gameplay wise and FF15 is basically Kingdom Hearts with a different art-style, instead of Sora with unplayable his Donald and Goofy gang, you get Noctis with his (at least in the main game) unplayable J-Pop boyband group.

About FF12 it launched in March 2016, with a relatively well received X360 and the main attention on NDS and to a lesser extent PSP taking the spot light in the Japanese gaming market, PS3 and Wii also had alot of mindshare pre- launch.

PS4 software sales have been mediocre at best in Japan. Publishers know its sales potential, that´s why they still often chose to go multiplatform with PSV and in certain cases even the old PS3.

Some info regarding Besteria from the retailers. I don't know japanese but google translate (yeah i know) helps to give us a picture.

-Berseria is the mainline Tales that has the lowest or one of the lowest pre-orders numbers. They think that's because of Zestiria that hurt the franchise a lot with the whole Alisia thing or whatever.

-Despite that, every time Bandai release new material (PV) the pre-orders are going up. It seems that people like what they see about the game.

-PS4 version is ahead of the PS3 version but the PS3 version has a respectable number of pre-orders, so it's not like the recent situation where PS4 wins by a huge margin (like Heroes 2 or MGSV).

Oh and btw, Berseria know took the 1st spot on Amazon JP.

It seems to be quite common that previous games get blamed for the decline, but there is a clear pattern for most of the less niche IPs. Yakuza despite not having the lazy excuse of a former entry hurting the IP, also saw a decline compared to the main PS3 entries, before the next gen transition. While the elephant in the room is quite obvious that PS4 is no PS3, when it comes to software sales.

It will be interesting what publishers will do to improve the performance of their games in Japan but so far it seems they are running quite a lot of their stronger IPs into the ground.

It'll do better me thinks too (ratio wise), but FF is on a whole other level of bad. Its an established franchise though this one in particular more of western style rpg than the traditional jrpg but still. FFXV can do 50% less than FFXIII lifetime and it'll still be worse than YW franchise or PD major decline.

That said FF still doing 1mil-1.2mil lifetime wouldn't be "That Bad" but it falls under lets say 700k-750k.... I wouldn't kno wat to say tbh. Maybe FFXIII really did hurt FF in General? Im starting to believe FFVII will do more than 15 now (despite being sold in parts)

Yeah, something tells me that FFVIIR will do better than FFXV. DQ11 also will do better than FFXV, in my opinion despite the 3DS version. FFXIII has good reception in Japan so i don't think it has anything to do with any potential ''failure'' of FFXV. Truth is, as you said, FFXV looks very western focused RPG. It doesn't look anything like FFX, FFXIII, FFVIII etc. Not only the game but also the marketing. Trailers are focused on the gameplay and not on the story like japanese people like. Uncovered was an event that was held in west etc.

But if FFXV fails to do more than 1 million or a little more than 1 million, i don't think this will be the end of the franchaise in Japan. People don't remeber this but FFIX had a massive delcine compared to FFVIII. FFIX ltd is almost the first week sales of FFVIII. I don't have the numbers but i am sure someone can find the data. I don't know the reason for the big decline (maybe because it's style was so different from FFVII and FFVIII?) but my point here is that FF had a bad period in Japan before and it managed to become big again.

I think this is the main reason for the "little" interest from japanese gamers, i feel the same, FFXV is the first FF that i'm not going to buy.

About the western focused, even Hajime Tabata mention that:

"Up until now, Final Fantasy has been viewed as a cutting edge franchise, and i'd really like to reclaim that title or reclaim Final Fantasy's throne, if you will. And I believe that, by striving toward AAA western titles a synthesis between that and Final Fantasy, we might finally take that glory back."

Is not the same with FFIX, that was one of the best selling Final Fantasy in japan, not like FFVII or FFVIII, of course, these two games are exceptions, thanks to the "Final Fantasy VII effect", i think, but FFIX sales are similar to V, VI, X, in japan.

I think they already confront that issue with pushing their games in Asia as a whole instead of just Japan.

Poor FFXV, unless some kind of miracle happens it'll end up with less points than FFXIII-2, which is just a sequel.

Well this was a shitty weekend. Expected Berseria to move better with it being kinda close to launch and a demo out there.

It´s good financially that they expand to other countries in Asia. But I´m refering to the domestic market in Japan. While their Japan/Asia division share resources the problem in Japan still remains. Ideally the expansion to new markets isn´t just a means to recover declines in their domestic markets but a move to further expand their revenue.
