Apparantly nothing is moving apart from pokemon lol.

FF15 performance looks on par with puzzle and Dragons at least on that graph.  Still don't think it will do as bad as comg suggests.

It'll do better me thinks too (ratio wise), but FF is on a whole other level of bad. Its an established franchise though this one in particular more of western style rpg than the traditional jrpg but still. FFXV can do 50% less than FFXIII lifetime and it'll still be worse than YW franchise or PD major decline.

That said FF still doing 1mil-1.2mil lifetime wouldn't be "That Bad" but it falls under lets say 700k-750k.... I wouldn't kno wat to say tbh. Maybe FFXIII really did hurt FF in General? Im starting to believe FFVII will do more than 15 now (despite being sold in parts)

Yeah, something tells me that FFVIIR will do better than FFXV. DQ11 also will do better than FFXV, in my opinion despite the 3DS version. FFXIII has good reception in Japan so i don't think it has anything to do with any potential ''failure'' of FFXV. Truth is, as you said, FFXV looks very western focused RPG. It doesn't look anything like FFX, FFXIII, FFVIII etc. Not only the game but also the marketing. Trailers are focused on the gameplay and not on the story like japanese people like. Uncovered was an event that was held in west etc.

But if FFXV fails to do more than 1 million or a little more than 1 million, i don't think this will be the end of the franchaise in Japan. People don't remeber this but FFIX had a massive delcine compared to FFVIII. FFIX ltd is almost the first week sales of FFVIII. I don't have the numbers but i am sure someone can find the data. I don't know the reason for the big decline (maybe because it's style was so different from FFVII and FFVIII?) but my point here is that FF had a bad period in Japan before and it managed to become big again.

Look at the sales trend of Final Fantasy XIII to Final Fantasy XIII 2 and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and you tell me what effect the XIII saga had on the franchise.  The XIII saga ran the mainline series straight into the ground hard.  This being a western-style RPG isn't helping matters.  Also, XV spent a LONG time in development hell, that's rarely conducive to success.

Yup it`s a combination of XIII trilogy ruining reputation + development hell that decreases trust in the franchise. Of course XV could turn out amazing and give the franchise a brighter look for its future (well atleast in Japan). But I doubt XV will meet any expectations simply because of 10 years of building hype for some people.

Boutros predicted the future!!! http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=7468256

This thread will be gold in a couple of month xD

lol, i was looking at this Thread since a lot. Dunno why no one bumped it yet. Anyway, here The end of The Story:

Splatoon on Wii U ( not counting likely NX port) will outsell FF XV on PS4 by Over 2:1. Very fun read.

I will be updating daily from now on. A few hours after Boutros post the numbers. I will also add Lightning Returns to the comparison.

I remember when we asked you to do this, but we thought FF XV would place between XIII and XIII-2 so LR would look just too out of place being so low... now we need it so FF XV doesn't look so low XD

I remember that too. Unfortunately The context has changed now and we need something to remain below FFXV so we can get a better understanding of its performance. Desperate times :P

LR ended up with 306 points BTW. I'm adding the data right now.

Disagree with the supposed western focus. FF15 looks very Japanese to me, starting with the J-Pop main-cast and especially the main character is almost a Sasuke from Naruto clone, gameplay-system is comparable to Japanese action games and marketing that includes short Anime episodes. The characters interaction with each other is also something that you see in many Animes. Even FF8 had a more western character design and this didn´t hurt. FF12 which had to compete with a late release and the next gen console hype, had the most western design so far and was also very successful.

More than a "western-focus" which is a quite far-fetched argument, a far more valid factor is that PS4 software sales potential has been quite weak in Japan. There has been no big hit sales wise on the system. And this is one major factor to the limited reach.

This. FF was always a mainstream franchise in Japan (hence the really good sales from its entries) and that audience is almost gone now. Niche audience remains hence games like P5 can still grow out their franchise.

Unless something magical happens I doubt any FF will push old number anytime soon.

Gameplay is more action focused because it want to appeal worldwide so saying that is comparable to japanese action games is not true at all. The team confirmed that in numerous interviews. Also, what character interections are ou talking about? You can't say that from the trailers alone, unless you have played the game. FFVIII didn't had a western character design, neither the enviroments (only futuristic design). FF12 was released ages before the launch of PS3 in Japan (before PS3 was even announced) so this is not true either.

PS4 software sales have been very good considering 90% of the titles it gets is multiplatform with PS3 and PSVITA.
