The game is compared to Unite (MHP2G) not Tri. While part of the same generation, it's not an expanded release. Due to the nature of a remaster/expansion coming a year after, it's deceitful to alignment Portable 3rd with 3 Ultimate. (reading interview with the developers, they emphasize that this it's supposed to be a completely new entry in the series)

Edit: we get into dumbest arguments about semantics. I should stop it.

Hahaha. I don't get the impression you're exactly disagreeing with me.

You see what I mean, that Portable 3rd came about by bringing the content in Tri to a different title on a different platform. For instance, lacking a second analogue stick, the PSP wasn't exactly ideal for the swimming mechanic introduced in Tri. They wound up with quite different level design and several different monsters from the Wii game.

Later, when bringing the Tri content to 3DS, they had a second screen to work with for displaying information, and for use as a touch screen. Both Portable 3rd and 3G reached different (and larger) audiences than Tri.

I guess I just think that with 4 on 3DS, 4G could have been on Vita, or anything else. It probably would have been good for the series, though I don't know much about the differences between 4 and 4G, so here's hoping the Direct in 13 hours sheds some light on that.

The "G" series is essentially a .5 of the previous game. It's the same game that's been touched up a bit + some extra that really should be DLC. Had the series taken off on PS3 or Wii vs. handhelds, I think we would have DLC with a "GOTY" or "remastered" edition instead of the "G" version.

But that isn't high. Look at how the previous "G" releases did. You expect them to pretty close to the version before.

isnt those numbers high because Monster Hunter was gaining popularity though? Dont kno why you expect mh4g to be aligned with mh4 sales. Pre orders are roughly 65%-75% of mh4 on COMG. that would align FW sales between 1.2mil-1.4mil.

I get sales off of the previous games with "G" but arent those days over? Its not suppose to as big as the original, i mean lemme kno where im wrong at so i can better understand the monster hunter situation :0

I see it as a third version and almost all franchises that have one never come close to the original !!!

Nice MH numbers.

If it's declining in popularity, that would be very bad. Why would Capcom be happy with their biggest series starting to buckle?

Because the series isn't at the height of its popularity, I don't expect it to exceed MH4, but to say 30% less seems to high... That would be worst case scenario.

I didnt actually say its declining in popularity though, i just said Third version (or G in this case) dont necessarily have to be as big as your expectations. 30% less is nothing bad at all. 30% less is 2.8mil-2.9mil shipped. I dont see how thats a decline, its not a new installment.

Dont get me wrong, i think fw sales and lifetime will be good, but man, i dont think a 2.8mil figure for a game is bad at all, especially when pokemon third installments in japan do 2mil-3mil coming off of games that did 5.5mil-7mil (10mil for red/blue).

Well, it is declining in popularity. We do know that (at least the playerbase is fragmented due to the platform move). This isn't the third version. It's the successor to Monster Hunter 4. It should be considered 2nd, whereas MH3U on 3DS was a similar G version to the original Tri on Wii.
