I still consider it the most likely actually.

A one year timed exclusive is possible, perhaps that Respawn game like rumours say. I think it's possible because rumors say that MS is in trouble and up to 6 months behind schedule for its 1st party launch line-up. And since Epic probably will go multiplatform with Gears, MS might feel the need to invest say $50 million on a timed exclusive deal with EA for one high-profile title to ensure a good start for the Nextbox. |
I was talking more about studios that EA owns. Respawn is an independent studio isn't it?

That's true.
Hmmm I can see something similar to what MS does with Call of Duty or maybe something similar to Gears of War.

Lol EA isn't about to exclude the PlayStation console from Fifa releases. That would literally slash the sales of fifa games by a minimum of 60%. This is EA we are talking about here, and unless Microsoft paid them a LARGE amount of money don't expect Fifa to be exclusive to Xbox. |
i agree. it must be something insubstantial because if it was something big like an EA full exclusive, we'de be hearing way more noise about it. EA have also spoken positively about the PS4.
SOLIDSNAKE08 said: the only way xbox could take europe would be if fifa was exclusive. could it happen? i think its just more DLC or some other cheesy shit. |

Oh come one even on PS4 we all know Fifa will outsell the 720 version (if they play the same on both consoles). Sony has Europe right now and who plays football games the most? Europeans. |

and neglect themselves the sales of 7M copies? yeah. lol If in fact there is a deal, they will do it with a new IP, and it will be timed exclusive, so that they get more attention and media coverage. They will sell like crazy on the 720, then it will be released for the PS4, where it will sell good, and finally the sequel will arrive on both consoles and they will hype it like crazy. |
ironmanDX said: For current gen consoles, you're right. Ps4 right now has sold 0, same as the xfinity. If Fifa exclusive made them buy a neXbox instead they wouldn't loose any software sales. Having said that, I doubt Fifa will ever be exclusive. |
pezus said: Probably DLC timed exclusive, permanently exclusive or a new game. Certainly not one from their big franchises |
Don't you love when people doubt that something will ever happen, but it happened before?
FIFA 07 Soccer | X360 | 2006 | Sports | Electronic Arts | 0.24 | 0.01 | 0.00 | 0.02 | 0.27 |
FIFA 06: Road to FIFA World Cup | X360 | 2005 | Sports | Electronic Arts | 0.11 | 0.01 | 0.01 | 0.01 | 0.13 |
After the great sales of Fifa 06 on 360 (which was next-gen exclusive for obvious reasons), as the wise and logical company with great business sense EA is, it took the right decision that Fifa 07 should be a 360 next-gen exclusive too. As a consequence of this, they achieved even greater sales than the last year (you can see that in the table above). Sales saw an incredible 100%+ increase because the game boasted a new graphics engine, HD, and a proper online, and it only required some bundling.
I'm not saying that it would happen again, of course, but having an open mind is usually a good idea.
If Microsoft made the deal sweet enough, I could see EA going for a limited exclusive deal, not so much with their sports games but other stuff, which probably means a few original EA games and the next Mass Effect is going to exclusive to the next Xbox for a year or something.
Maybe EA's digital market platform is going to be the backbone of the new Live Market or something.
No way does MS get exclusive Fifa or BF games it just won't happen however exclusive content may well indeed be in there in many forms.
The most shocking thing would be if MS buys out EA all together, there were a lot of rumors back in the financial collapse timeframe(07-09) about MS buying them out and if that happens then.... welll yeah then Fifa would be exclusive I suspect :P
Either way if they stay independent which I Think they willl then there is no way that MS gets exclusive Fifa's or BF games
I suppose this might put a damper on the speculation, but Microsoft is developing a sports app for their console, and the exclusivity that might be in the offing is. That Electronic Arts will be supporting the app in their games. Thus the Next Box will alway have a exclusive feature that the PS4 will not. Making the Next Box version the definitive version of the game, because it will support real time updating.
Possible features would be a real time sports ticker, live streaming of video content screen in screen. Possibly the inclusion of ESPN sports programming in a corner. Players being able to participate in a build your own team fantasy league system. Real time roster updates, and playbook updates.
It may not be much to you or I, but to some sports fans that probably sounds like the definition of Nirvana.
Its EA....its timed exclusive. 1 year would be nice.
Sure the PS fans will get it eventually, but the marketing buzz and majority of sales will come from the Xbox and benefit the Xbox brand alone. So in the end, I say a timed exclusive is just as effective as a actual exclusive.
