I have a 1Tb HDD, but my friends who have an SSD have a much quicker load time on all digital games. So I think that its a definite improvement on PS3 for gaming. I would love to get one for the ps4, but I'll probably wait until the market prices drop for a decent sized SSD.

No. What's the point if you play from disc, and an SSD won't fit many games?

Iirc Sony said games are installed when you play them. The disc seems to be only needed to check for existance.

Sony never said that entire games would need to be installed......

Like many of the PS3 games, PS4 games may not need that.

i think they said that the game installs while you play it. Nobody wants to run a game off disc anymore, it is just too slow.

There are no install time but the games install while you play.

Like GT5

And I guess it's not all the game data... just one part to get fast access... it's not a full copy of a Blu-ray 50GB.

With 8gb of gddr5 you won't need it

They're not the same thing. An SSD will noticeably decrease load times on the PS4 since it supports SATA3.

I don't bother with it for my PC because of the cost. I paid about £80 for my 1TB HDD and £80 for my 128GB SSD. Prices of SSDs are falling, but it will be ages before you can get good sized drives for reasonable prices.

Anyway, performance gains on SSDs are minimal in most games, I use the SSD for Windows and most programmes, then my HDD for Steam, Origin and Videos

There's enough ram for pre-loading. You will likely not see very many load times.

From Digital Foundry, an SSD with Gran Turismo 5 reduced load times by half. I don't know where I saw it, but SSD also makes for instant texture loading on Rage rather than you might see a small bit of texture loading on a regular harddrive.

Don't believe people here - an ssd is *always* a win. Hdds are only outslowed by the bluray-drive.
