Forums - Gaming - BlueStacks GamePop: A new contender enters the ring!

http://www.droid-life.com/2013/05/09/bluestacks-announces-gamepop-an-android-gaming-console-with-a-subscription-service/

BlueStacks is the PC/Mac app that allows you to run your Android apps on your computer and they are now releasing a TV connected device that will allow you to play your Android games.

Significant difference is that it will run with a $6.99/mo subscription fee allowing the user to access ANY Android game (by any it likely means any the company has a deal with) even if you have not purchased that game individually.

Kinda like a Netflix for games.

Preorders start today at: https://secure.gamepop.tv/PreOrder If you preorder before the end of may and sign up for the subscription model, the hardware is free too.

Are you gonna try it out?

No.

I don't get these stand-alone Android console devices. They are missing the market shift. People not TVs are the new centre of the gaming universe. Tying Android exclusively to a TV is a step in the wrong direction.

A phone or tablet that also allows me to play on TV (Galaxy S4, iPhone 5S) as well as on the go (and have one save file) makes infinitely more sense and saves me the cost of paying for another device.

What if you use the same login-(google account) on both of those devices and it saves your game saves on the cloud, thus providing the benefit of not tying up your phone when playing at home.

This whole Android games on TV is becoming the next Pong console. Now every person wants to release their own slightly altered version of the same thing. Do we really need that many especially when you can already play those games on smartphones?

I think people are overestimating the success of Ouya.

no, i probably won't. not many mobile games interest me and those which do are fine on the small display. if i want to play "big" games which are maybe even available for smartphones and tablets i rather use my console or pc and buy games for those systems. maybe i miss a game or two which runs on android and is much better on a big screen but i already have so many games to play on pc and console that i don't really need even more games

Game saves on cloud would be a great idea.  But really, playing off a phone wouldn't really, 'tie' up my phone in any meaningful way, I can still recieve and make calls - it'd just pause the game when it happens - which is perfect should I choose to answer - but then I could continue to play while talking on the phone, same as I do now.

But for Bluestacks, that'd be a better idea - cloud saves, so I can continue playing, say, Broken Sword, on my PC when I'm home, via Bluestacks, instead of having a completely seperate game than is on my phone.    Also I've had to factory reset my phone a couple times - losing all save data (and apps) so having them on cloud would be a wonderful thing.

They definitely are if they think Ouya is a success.

They are probably looking at the kickstarter and thinking "OmG lOoK at TeH miLLionz of MonAY ther'RE makinG!" There must be a lot of demand for the product for it to raise millions of dollars and now everyone wants to put their hand in the cookie jar.

But you can only really guage success after the console has launched and there's only so much room for a consoles that do the same thing.

Between Steam and Consoles - Ain't nobody got time for this!

Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.
