Given my recent interest in the religious debate i have seen a continued point of contention is that when something bad is done in the name of religion people on one side claim that the religion caused the person/person's to do it while others will claim that the person twisted the religion to suit their own desires.

I was wondering what the thought's of the forum member's were. Do you believe it's people or religion that harm's the other?

Religions are man-made, so it's people corrupting themselves.

People convince themselves of things with no evidence all the time. Religion is just something fairly visible.

it's games! Games corrupt people! don't you keep up with the news?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Religion don't kill people. People kill people.

But does religion convince people to kill people or does religion just provide an excuse for the action's  for what some bad people do.

Religion teaches you to believe in something without any evidence whatsoever. This has very profound implications. If you can simply take things on faith, you are an irrational person. Irrational thoughts can be used to do any number of dangerous things. It is this very reason that there are crimes of passion, fanboys arguing absurdities, suicide bombers, etc.

People are inherently evil, but religion coming from man or being influenced by man can corrupt other people.

True revelation is a miracle.

You know nothing, dsgrue.

Relgion teaches you to have faith on something that gives you evidence, just not proof. What you describe is something else. That's called blind faith, and it's not what religion teaches, in general.

Christianity is from God my friend, but you might be right about the other religions.
