Forums - Gaming Discussion - Capcom: DmC "posted solid sales", Capcom still using outsourcing

Here's the thing though. If they didn't outsource DmC. Dragon's Dogma wouldn't have likely been created, because the previous DMC team did Dragon's Dogma.

I like the route they took better, as I like Dragons Dogma, and I think DmC is the 3rd best DMC. The only DMC I thought was great or classic was 3 anyways. But that's just me, and I'm not a diehard DMC fan.

Sales of 1.2 seems a bit low to happy with though for an estabelished franchise.

Yeah, the only DMC I thought was better than the new one was part 3 as well.

How can 1.2 million be considered solid sales for a Devil May Cry game?

Yea, that's definitely down from previous installments in the franchise.  And considering that's shipped, I doubt they will end up selling through all of those copies.  If those were truly solid sales, I would imagine they would be starting on a sequel by now.  I highly doubt we'll see one anytime soon, though.

I actually started playing DmC this week, has anyone else run into an invisible enemy glitch? The actual enemy locks up then you target and keep getting attacked from nowhere. Gameplay wise that is the oddity.
Still playing, but this Dante can be really grating, not my kind of character.

You make a good point. Dragon's Dogma seems to be getting a spiritual sequel in the form of Dark Arisen. Judging by how well Dragon's Dogma has been recieved with respect to various criticisims; I'm sure the next game will be a great ambadassor for Japanese made RPGs. Maybe it will even rival Dark Souls 2.

I think DmC sold 1.15 mil copies and Capcom shipped 1.2 mil copies as of March 31.

But the problem with DmC is they've released it too late in the console cycle. Year on year softwar sales are down from when DMC4 came out; this is also evident in the decline of sales from God of War Ascension since God of War 3.

I think Capcom should've waited until next gen to release the game, they could've made it a launch title. Its difficult to interest new fans at this stage in the gen. But it did okay I suppose.

Dragon Dogma: Dark Arisen is an expansion released in retail form, and it is already in stores.

Because if 1.2m isn't solid for the cheap outsourced DmC, then 1.3m for the seccond biggest dev team CAPCOM has ever assembled in Dragons Dogma would have to be an epic disaster http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/business/million.html. DmC should leg it's self past DMC3 which most fans consider the best in the series anyway lol.

Good because the DmC is one of the best hack n slash games released this year... way better than Rising and others... just not too good like GoW: A.

It's way too easy. Almost every hack n' slash game this generation has been insultingly easy.

@eathomaz DmC 2013 and all GOW games are rrediculas easy xD. MGR and NG3RE are only ones to offer any real challenge this year.

@Wright play NG3RE on Master Ninja or Ultimate Ninja!

That is interesting. I think part of the reason it's percieved (including mine) is because of VGC's aweful tracking.

None of these include the PC versions

VGC's Numbers

DmC: 0.71
DMC4: 2.75
DMC3: 2.21
DMC3: SE 2.09
DMC2: 1.97
DMC: 2.99

Capcoms As of March 31, 2013
DmC: 1.1
DMC4: 2.7
DMC3: 1.3
DMC2: 1.7
DMC: 2.16

Obviously, you can argue shipped vs sold (at which VGC overtracked a lot of the older games). But VGC is really wrong with DMC3, and DMC, and has been really aweful this year.

What is solid or not solid, depends on semantics, and at which point in time you evaluate from. If they evaluated from their 2 million expectations, it's hard to see 1.2 million as solid from a certain viewpoint. But it is what is regardless of which phrase someone uses to describe it. It doesn't mean they didn't profit or that it's not performing to their revised but possibly acceptable expectations.

I wonder how VGChartz is so far out I mean I find it hard to belive that Capcom would be undertracking their own shipments so I'm not sure how VGCharz managed almost 1 million units over on DMC 3, plus have the seperate SE version at over 2 million when it hasn't even reached Capcom's own million sellers list. DmC didn't do as much as they hoped (5 million acording to one random producer but that was always pie in the sky stuff) or the 2 million they projected. But it's not too much of a streatch that they see 1.1m on consoles to be a solid base especially if they can turn out a cheap sequel in a couple years even if it hasn't quite broken even yet especially if compared to the likes of Dragons Dogma or even the Lost Planet games.
