Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Just Cause devs: Wii U dev kits “collecting dust,” no plans to develop for the console

Just Cause 2 PC multiplayer is the greatest thing ever invented since sliced bread. I can play that thing online forever.

Yeah, the beta is awesome^^

Too bad that Avalanche didn't bother to include it themselves though, they missed on so many full-price sales...

Just Cause 2 was a lot of fun. Shame for any Wii-U-only owners.

Are they now blacklisted?

"I think Nintendo has a lot to gain from being more like Sony, by reaching out to developers and that way get more developers with them.

If that were to happen, you feel more enthusiasm as a developer, and perhaps you'd be inspired to make something cool, something good. In the case of Nintendo this could be something based on the GamePad for the Wii U."

(This is my translation)

So developers are children who need approval and encouragement from Nintendo to be inspired to develop something cool or good?

This is a laughable excuse and quite discouraging to see grown men fall back on this kind of thinking. In the real world it works like this:

You have the dev kits, you either use them to make something or you don't. It's up to you. Don't pretend that Nintendo needs to reach out to you, that it's too difficult to figure out how to do it, that you would like to do something it's just all these things that are out of our hands. This is excuse driven thinking and not the domain of men, that is how children think.

Finally, I think it's only fair to point out that the guy is Swedish, and that perhaps it reflects poorly on me to expect clear analytical thinking from a Swede.

then you need to read it again. Avalanche probably wanted to work with Ninty before but they didnt pay them any mind, probably because they were a small dev. That makes alot of sense, i would see Ninty answering there phone calls either.

Now they are with a publisher (SE) that can get Ninty on the phone, unfortunately, SE may feel that whatever the studio is working on (im assuming Just Cause 3) is no viable for a Ninty platform, hence why they havent even used dev kits.

How comes we see so many Indy games with far smaller teams on the WiiU then? This is BS and I think you know it.

The wii u is just not a profitable console to develop on.

I'm sure Nintendo will make plenty of profits by the end of the gen. However crappy games won't make any profit at all neither on the Wii U nor anywhere else and they will blame Nintendo or the mobile market for their failures.

-sigh- every new console has a relatively low amount of consumers to begin with. The key is to see the potential in a console and support it from day one reeling in more and more consumers and eventually making a nice profit - Ubisoft has it right, why can't more developers be like Ubisoft?

Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.

are you serious? You dont know what you are talking about. Avalanche has been part of SE for YEARS. LONG before WIi U was even thought of. THe last game they made was JC2 which came on in 2010, if im not mistaken. Wii U has nothing to do with Avalanche when they WERE independent which was years ago. THey cant do crap for WIi U unless SE approves, take it up with them. And when they were independent Ninty didnt have an indie scene, hell i think Ninty didnt even have an online scene, read it again.

Read my comment again. Where did I say Avalanche is an Indy dev? You suggested Avalanche got ignored by Nintendo because they are a relatively small team. They still are. At no point in your comment did you give any date, so it was reasonable to expect you'd be talking about the current situation, especially since this entire thread is about the current situation.

I responded to your comment by pointing out that Nintendo apparently DOES work with small dev studios, as proved by all the Indy games being released on the WiiU.

PS: The Wii had a Indy scene back then, have you already forgotten WiiWare?

They were ignored becaue they were a small team with NO publisher backing before, thats what im saying. Why would i talk about the current situation when Avalanche themselves said they couldnt get in touch in the "past", now they can.

They work with them, now. Years ago? I kinda doubt it or at least not as much.

PS Avalanche was still part of SE during the WiiWare years and quite frankly the indie out put on that service was pitiful at best, which is my point they were not very good before, they are better now.
