Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Just Cause devs: Wii U dev kits “collecting dust,” no plans to develop for the console

So basically, they want to make games for Wii U, but the Publishers don't want to get on board to fund them. Corporations FTW?

It must be quite sad to be talented and have so many dreams going into the business. Just to find a publisher down voting everything you come up cuz it's not practical!! Money speaks louder than anything else for the majority these days, maybe it always was like this!

And then they say it's a question of the U's capabilities. It's all corporate brah, all of it.

And +1 at dev kits now collecting dust. If the Wii collecting dust wasn't enough, now we have to deal with the dev kits collecting dusts lol.

@Somini... It's always been money that talks, it's just that now it's money + bias... scratch that it's always been money + bias. Businesses in general have less faith in Nintendo than Sony and MS because they are not as broad a business as the latter. Except if they've been in gaming for a while and profited on Nintendo handhelds, then they get Nintendo's frugal qualities. Otherwise they just don't. So money + bias.

I sure miss the Famicom days when risk taking was very much an option and that came many a great games, hopefully the Indie scene will revive that across all platforms so we can give the finger to these kinds of bullshit.

I bought Just Cause 2 for a couple of bucks and it sucked. Hard. Played it for about an hour and didn't return.

You're in the minority. Just Cause 2 is one of the best open world games to mess around in, but most of the other stuff isn't that good so if you tried to play through the missions only then I'd understand.

On PC it's great at least, if you get the grappling hook extension mod, you can hook like 10 things together and have them all come together and BOOM! It's fucking bad ass lol.

The problem is that he only played the first hour. The first mission DOES suck, but as soon as you have the choice of doing what you want the game becomes stellar^^

The first Just Cause was kind of meh, but Just Cause 2 was incredible.

Easily the most fun sandbox game of this gen with Saints Row.

I agree^^

And with jc2-mp getting better and better it will become even more fun

N64 all over again guys, imagine if just once...a Nintendo console can have the majority of 3rd party support plus it's ridiculously good first party games, would sell hundreds of millions consoles! Too bad

Developer also says

"I think Nintendo has a lot to gain from being more like Sony, by reaching out to developers and that way get more developers with them.

If that were to happen, you feel more enthusiasm as a developer, and perhaps you'd be inspired to make something cool, something good. In the case of Nintendo this could be something based on the GamePad for the Wii U."

(This is my translation)

So developers are children who need approval and encouragement from Nintendo to be inspired to develop something cool or good?

This is a laughable excuse and quite discouraging to see grown men fall back on this kind of thinking. In the real world it works like this:

You have the dev kits, you either use them to make something or you don't. It's up to you. Don't pretend that Nintendo needs to reach out to you, that it's too difficult to figure out how to do it, that you would like to do something it's just all these things that are out of our hands. This is excuse driven thinking and not the domain of men, that is how children think.

Finally, I think it's only fair to point out that the guy is Swedish, and that perhaps it reflects poorly on me to expect clear analytical thinking from a Swede.

then you need to read it again. Avalanche probably wanted to work with Ninty before but they didnt pay them any mind, probably because they were a small dev. That makes alot of sense, i would see Ninty answering there phone calls either.

Now they are with a publisher (SE) that can get Ninty on the phone, unfortunately, SE may feel that whatever the studio is working on (im assuming Just Cause 3) is no viable for a Ninty platform, hence why they havent even used dev kits.
