Forums - Politics Discussion - Benghazi Hearings is this important?

So I have been following this investigation for the past several months and I'm curious to know what others think.

We now know the administration lied regarding the reason for the attack (the muslm video tape scandal), and we now know they lied about their efforts on that night.  What I am trying to figure out is why?  Why would the administration lie about it being a terrorist attack and why would they lie about not having assets avaialbe to help?  I've heard the conservative reasons

1.  Administration didn't want to have a terrorist attack get picked up by the media when their story has been terror is on the run.

2.  Ambassador stevens was working for the CIA to sell arms to Syrian Rebels and Al Queda learned of his location after meeting with a turkish ambassador.

3.  Incompetence and dissinterest.

I personally do not believe this administration is so incompetent that they wouldn't send in assets that were ready to go, I believe it had to be for a greater purpose and I believe talking point #2 makes the most sense.  We already know the CIA changed the talking points for the infamous sunday press shows so it would stand to reason that if Ambassador Stevens was selling arms to the Syran Rebels and the state department knew it was a CIA operation the stand down order would make sense because the state department wouldn't want their hands on it at any cost, even if it meant people dying.

Just curious what others may think.

why is it that the right investigated benghazi more than they did iraq and 9/11? this is nothing more than using up the clock. the best way to save money in this pathetic country is to defund congress. right now they are literally a waste of tax payers dollars.

Possibility #1 is petty enough that that's where I'd put my money. It would fit this administration to a T.

Not really, just a few desperate Republicans grasping at anything they can.

Soldiers coming home, the economy getting better, jobs returning, civil rights advancements, things are better. What else can they do?

They could work to improve things further, but no, they and their followers just want to make silly trouble, can you believe we are still hearing about that birth certificate?

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Everything about it screams cover up.

It is not clear whether or not anything else could have been done, but we know it was a terrorist attack from the beginning at this point and not because of some muhammad documentary.

Gregory Hicks has just provided testimony in regards to a 2nd special ops team that could have provided assistance but was ordered not to. (Admittedly, they probably could not have prevented any tragedies that occurred)

But the issue is that we are just now hearing about this. Where is the promised transparency of this administration?

well as far as 9/11 there was a great deal of investigation including the 9/11 report by the special commision, I don't disagree that conservatives have focused a great deal of attention to this matter, but I'd like to keep the discussion focused, if possible, on why the administration lied not why are republicans focusing on it.  If you are a left leaning person I'd like to hear your thoughts on why the admnistration lied.

I don't really see this as depseration more a scenario of where an administration has now openly lied and cover up an investigation and there should be accountability, the administration could have cleared this all up months ago but they have chosen to stall.  But as mentioned above let's keep the focus to why the administration lied, if you have a reason for this from the liberal perspective I would be interested in hearing it, so far all I have heard from liberal talking points is the administrion did not lie they jut didn't know.  We now know that talking point is false so I would like to hear a new explanation one that fits within the aquired information we now have.

I just found #1 to be so petty that they couldn't possibly have let it go for straight political points.  Politics is big in Washington but I can't believe they would let people die just to continue a poiltical point.
