Forums - Gaming Discussion - Can Disney save the EA-Nintendo relationship?

This thread turned out perfectly, didn't it?

OT: Disney will surely want EA to release their games onto Nintendo's platforms. Disney won't make EA release all their games on Nintendo platforms, though. As they can't.

You say it's not close to true then quote 360 @ 6.08% versus 5.99% for the Wii U.  You don't consider 0.09% to be close.  Your standards for a dramatic difference is very small!  The last time I checked Wii U was ahead, but that was a month or more ago and the 360 version must be selling better since.  Still almost the same though, and a 6% attach rate is a good rate.

I had originally interpreted it as not counting the first week for either system.  Also that figure was removing the first two weeks.  If you only remove the first week it is 7.67% for the 360.  An attach rate about 28% higher than the Wii U.  Of course if you actually count all the sales as any publisher would, you get an attach rate of 16.1%, more than double that of the Wii U.  6% is not a good attach rate for a new system.  It's less than a fifth of the attach rate of the first CoD on 360, and less than half of the first one on PS3.

Shouldn't a new system have a much higher attach rate than an old one, as there is less competition from other games?

It's gonna be much harder to tell now with the digital distribution being the norm for all systems from launch, so I expect attach rates to fall, but only because of no didigtal tracking.

To be honest I don't think EA will be the last. If the next CoD game on the Wii U doesn't sell solid numbers (provided it's even coming out on Wii U), Activision will bail out as well outside of Skylanders.

The numbers these Wii U third party games are selling through is atrocious, there needs to be a huge pick up in the fall in the sales of those games (not just Nintendo's own games) otherwise publishers will move on.

It will not since most people that have a WiiU  already bought a Ps360 before  to play games like COD with their friends which also have the same console.

Thats the problem  those stupid devs dont understand that you cant sinply say every WiiU owner = potential NEW customer.

I for example never play shooters on a console unless they are exclusive    PC has simply the better input method for shooters.  I play most multiplat games on PC and then I buy exclusives on consoles.

Third party will exactly do this:

They will release games on  current gen and WiiU   then they see WiiU versions dont really sell (because of most WiiU owners already having current gen systems)  then they will start to abandon WiiU  and  will wait for PS4 and nextbox to come out.

Then the new games for those systems will be made and WiiU will not get a second chance. BUT when the next COD would not come out to PS360  but only to next gen systems people would buy the WiiU version (unless they are completely brand loyal and all of their friends are)   but since it will not come out  that wont happen.

Third party is the reason why third party doesnt work on Nintendo consoles.  They have no patience  and are ignorant.  For example  COD on Wii had a nice little userbase but since the games stopped coming out the community died and the Nintendo gamers that started to like COD went to PS360. Thats the fault of Activision.  And since those Nintendo players now have friends etc on those systems why would they buy COD on WiiU? They buy it on PS360. Unless its not available there anymore.

Those Nintendo players will start to buy COD games for WiiU if COD wont come out on current-gen systems anymore.

So EA just came out with their numbers for this past fiscal quarter...

5 million dollars total revenue from Wii (no mention of Wii U) vs 2 million on the PS2 (yes 2) vs 700+ million on the PS360

9 million from Nintendo handhelds vs 20 million from Sony handhelds vs 108+ revenue from mobile

....and you expect them to return in 2014...ok

Silly Train Wreck.  You need to release games to make money off them!

Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.
