Forums - Nintendo Discussion - "The Great Hardcore Lie Exposed: Wii Did Not Lose Core Gamers"

American list, I see. This core thing is stupid, but add Mario Strikers Charged and Disaster: Day of Crisis and Wii wins.

That's a pretty good article and its greatness is further supported by the fact that oniyide is running damage control.

Perhaps at some point in the future every Wii detractor will put the blame for shortcomings of the Wii's game library where it rightfully belongs: on third parties. People don't praise Nintendo when a third party makes a good game for a Nintendo system, simply because it doesn't make any sense to praise Nintendo for something like this. However, it's common that someone blames Nintendo for bad third party games, because logic be damned.

damage control how? if you're going debunk somethign have something to back it up. Thats what i did. Still wanna blame stuff on 3rd parties I see.  No one is blaming Nintendo of anything. The fact is the article ignores 3rd party, which is strange becasue 3rd party makes up 90% of the Wii's library.

That shit about core and casuals is sooooooo stupid. Oh yes i was so hardcore back in the 90´s playing Ninja turttles and Super Mario World, but now im a casual if i play new super mario world U and The avengers.

It really depends how much you play it. Its not so much the game but how much hours some body plays something. Their are games that are designed to not be played for a long time. Like your Just Dances, you could in theory log Skyrim like hours into that. BUt is there a person out there playing Just Dance for 200 hours? Possibly but unlikely.

I´m 26 years old, have a work and a wife. I can´t play 200 hours of nothing.

Well there you go. Nothing lasts forever.

So if you have a life, you can't be a core gamer?

I'm an advocate for motion controls, Nintendo, and Kicking freaking Toad to the Moon!

I don't think anyone ever doubted that Nintendo published 1st party games were doing badly on the Wii, be it hardcore or casual titles. They did great and better than they ever did before.

The real issue comes in when you compare the overall 1st+3rd party software of the Wii with that of PS3 or 360 that are core titles. If you put up that list of 30 1st party games along with whatever core 3rd party titles that the Wii has beside those offered on the 360 or PS3, then you really start to see the difference. When the PS3/360 were getting several core titles every month, Wii was only getting a few big Nintendo releases a year. That is where this whole, Wii abandoned core thing comes from even though it isn't strictly true from a 1st party perspective. But you can't ignore 3rd party.

Wait a minute. The title says

"The Great Hardcore Lie Exposed: Wii Did Not Lose Core Gamers"

Is "The Wii Did Not Lose Core Gamers" the lie? Or is that what the article is trying to prove?

Fact is that the Wii gained more new core gamers with first party games than it lost due to the absence of third parties. So what point are you trying to make?

How so? THey sold more games than they did GC, Ninty at least, but they also sold a hell of alot more consoles so that was just natural.  And if thats true why didnt the sales translate to good 3rd party sales, and no you cant say their was an absence, they made a few games. And why did the games that did come to the system, especially multiplat ones, sell worst on Wii? They got more new NINTENDO fans, NINTY=/= core.  i guess we just have a very different idea of what "core" is.

He said hardcore, a bit more extreme than core.

Simple fact you have to make a thread like this....pretty much says it all

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

You mean somebody writes an article about this. I merely looked it up on N4G and posted it here.

Wii didn't have core gamers in the first place.

It's a console designed first and foremost for casual players, that was the whole concept of the machine. That's also why Nintendo didn't give a hoot about things like expandable storage (love dat fridge) or online networking on the system, because it wasn't relevant to their main demographic on the machine.

Sony took that audience from Nintendo basically with the Playstation 1, now MS and Sony have basically divided it in half and Nintendo is trying to find their own audience now that casuals have abandoned the Wii brand.
