hmm I dunno, I investigate quite a bit before I buy games to avoid disappointments. I had high hopes for Max Payne 3 but it wasn't like the Max Payne of old. Still good, but it didn't have that "special" factor MP1 had.

I never though that Max Payne 3 could top what Max Payne 1 did. Bearing that in mind, I found the game pretty impressive. After L.A Noire I thought they might screw a franchise I love.

The gameplay was there but it felt more like a typical Rockstar action game than the cool, noir feel of MP1. Damn, that game is so quotable. O.O
"I didn't like the way the show started, but they had given me the best seat in the house, front row center."
"It was a lucky break. The goons inside were spooked, but luck always came with a price tag."
"Collecting evidence had gotten old a few hundred bullets back. I was already so far past the point-of-no-return I couldn't remember what it had looked like when I had passed it."
"You'd find that Lady Luck was really a hooker, and you were fresh out of cash."

"Rico Muerte. You know, the typical Keyser Söze". =P
You're comparing MP1 to MP3. MP3 doesn't reach anywere the style MP1 had. But if you stop comparing these for a moment, I think MP3 was particulary well-done and respectful to the original source, even if it has less memorable scenes and focuses way more on the classic action game. Having set it up on Brazil didn't help either.
