Forums - Gaming Discussion - Kotaku expands on their Next Xbox 6 months behind report

Are you worried about the Next Xbox launch?

Yes 49 31.01%

Maybe 25 15.82%

No 83 52.53%

Total:157

Well, am I worried? No, for obvious reasons. I don't think that's the right question to be asking though. It should be "Do you believe this rumor has ANY weight behind it at all?" If the answer is yes then I can't see how one can't be worried about it. If it is no then there really isn't anything to worry about

To be fair, this sounds like a regular console launch. It's just that Sony seems especially ready this time.

I would say that Sony is better prepared to market than MS.  Currently we have not received a lot of info on what the PS4 will have ready on launch.  Could be that Sony is having issues as well since I do not remember if actualy hardware has reach developers hands.

If there is something Sony is not better prepared than Micro, that is to market the PS3.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

I'm patient enough to wait for MS to take their time with the next Xbox.

That's cool, but the article is talking about Micro not being patient with it and taking necessary time and launching Fusion Infinity prematurely. But, this guy could be right, or wrong, right?

Actually we do not know if MS is rushing anything.  When reading this article I did not get the impression that MS is rushing anything.  I got the impression that sofware from MS internal teams was not up to snuff and MS killed those projects.  You do not kill projects if you are rushing anything.  You would just release what you have and hope to ride on those so so projects until you get a big one out the door.

Or you would wait some months until you have more to present at launch. You also kill projects if you don't believe they will make profits and will be a waste of both money and resources. This guy could be wrong or right. I've said this three times already, hopefully no one will quote me saying I am taking what this guy says for granted.

Hopfully no one is taking this guy as fact.  When it comes to rumors you never know exactly what someone source actualy knows.  People are quick to give their opinion even if it's not fully formed.  We see such comments here on the forums and its no different from someone source who might think they know the landscape but even they only get bits and pieces from someone else.

But at the same time we can't rule that what he has seen is a representation of what is the real situation of Micro. We just need to:

stay on the fence.

What I am stating is that Sony is better prepared to market the PS4 this gen because thats how they have garnered such good will early.  They have a prerelease for the PS4.  Show up at GDC show support for indies and changes to their license for indies.  Have articles on the internal changes they have done to improve the PS4 over stock AMD hardware and released videos and articles talking about their share code plan and the new controller and its features.

So far, Sony has been very smart and wise in keeping everything positive which is a first I believe and shows that Sony has paid attention to the market and what early adopters want to hear.

I totally agree, I love to speculate as much as the next person but in the end, I only react to atual facts.  On May 21 MS will have their chance to song and dance us all.  After that people will dissect ever bit of information and before November we will know the landscape of both companies to make a purchase decision.

Not too worried, launches are never super strong, from what I've been hearing it should still have a few first party titles, and third party titles like BF4/Destiny/Watch Dogs/AC4 etc.

20 days guys. They are rumors not facts. You will get facts during the reveal and E3. If these rumors turn out to be true so be it but until then relax. Out of the 1000s of rumors MANY will be fake.

But i do agree with launches are never that strong because from my experience that has always been the case.

Got to be honest.....those are some troubling reports

I wouldn't worry about it too much, sounds likely that at worst it just won't have a stellar launch window and could start slow out the gate because of that.  I don't think it's likely to have any long lasting effects on the platform.

The only part that really worries me is hearing theres so much confusion within MS over what exactly to do with the new console. That they are pretty scatterbrained at the moment.

Its just rumors again so could be false but this one actually worries me more than most the others as it sounds like MS themselves dont have a clear vision for the console

Visions get adjusted, even if its unclear at the beginning they'll tweak it and it will change depending on how the audience receives it and how to deal with competition.

These are consoles after all, not statues.

@OP: I guess the first year of a console is a bit messy. Not only gamers are checking out what comes out on the system but also 3rd parties are studying how well it sells and what numbers do their games do in that system. Now I'm just curious about what those cancelled projects were. We'll never know, maybe they even discarded something good.
