"I'd expect all console launches to be like the Wii U's. Because they always are."

It's hard to argue with that.

I think Microsoft is going to pull a Nintendo (and Kinect) and market the hardware, at least initially. They're going to go in huge with concept videos and advertisements that show families smiling and jumping more than actual gaming content. And it could work. Worked fantastic with the Wii and Kinect. In that sense, they might not even need that many exclusive games beyond Kinect 2.0 titles and some Kinect-ish multi-media functionality. The average consumer is pretty easy to manipulate. Just show them how awesome something could POTENTIALLY be.

There is also the possibility that Microsoft is doing an amazing job keeping secrets. There might be only a few people who know the whole picture. That kind of secrecy can be tough to work around but Microsoft is kind of known for that, anyway. The referenced sources might be in the dark without even knowing they're in the dark. We'll just have to wait and see.

The only trouble Microsoft might have is if Sony has a solid line-up of exclusives in the PS4 launch window. That looks to be the case, though we once said the same thing about the Wii U. There might be delays that could take away some of that advantage.

It's just way, way too early to think that we know how anything is going to work out.

I don't see how this could be possible, with MS having plenty of years to prepare this time around and because many of their studios even stopped making 360 games relatively early.

Arrogance. They're about to become the #1 best-selling console in America and  they delayed next-gen as far as they could.

If there's going to be another Wii U-like situation, why not delay the launch until March? Its better than launching an unfinished product that requires tons of firmware updates to be complete and false promises of launch window games.

It will be better, I think, because it has way better 3rd-party-support.

That's true. But this article mentions 3rd parties are also having issues as well.

"All that said, the "six month" thing I reported has stuck out. What's it mean? It means, as best I understand it, that we'll see Durango launch like the Wii U did. It means developers—internally and third-party—haven't had a ton of time with development hardware. It means that, as I've been told, the games aren't where they need to be and even the machine's operating system isn't up to snuff yet. Nintendo may have some problems unique to Nintendo, but if you thought Wii U's ungraceful launch was just a Nintendo thing, think again. (Christmas 2013 with a maturing Wii U and newborn PS4 and next-gen Xbox just might look a little different than Nintendo naysayers expected.)"

Of course this is possible when considering how many consoles had a troubled (or not perfect) launch.

I cant help but wonder if MS has substantialy changed the hardware.

We got confirmation MS sent out dev kits for Durango BEFORE Sony sent out dev kits for PS4. Yet recent rumors have pointed towards heating issues and now here he mentions dev teams havent had as much time with the hardware.

Plus the reports in January that talked about a much stronger dev kit being sent out. Hmmmm

I'm patient enough to wait for MS to take their time with the next Xbox.

That's cool, but the article is talking about Micro not being patient with it and taking necessary time and launching Fusion Infinity prematurely. But, this guy could be right, or wrong, right?

Actually we do not know if MS is rushing anything.  When reading this article I did not get the impression that MS is rushing anything.  I got the impression that sofware from MS internal teams was not up to snuff and MS killed those projects.  You do not kill projects if you are rushing anything.  You would just release what you have and hope to ride on those so so projects until you get a big one out the door.

To be fair, this sounds like a regular console launch. It's just that Sony seems especially ready this time.

Or you would wait some months until you have more to present at launch. You also kill projects if you don't believe they will make profits and will be a waste of both money and resources. This guy could be wrong or right. I've said this three times already, hopefully no one will quote me saying I am taking what this guy says for granted.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

It's unfortunate to hear that they are having some issues, but as Totilo said, that's hardly uncommon for a console launch. Microsoft may be behind the PS4 at launch, but I highly doubt we're talking about a PS3 launch catastrophe here.

I'm not sure this will really affect me, anyway, since I'm not going to be buying the Durango until sometime next year. By then they will probably have some of the issues ironed out, and more exclusive content announced and on the way.

I would say that Sony is better prepared to market than MS.  Currently we have not received a lot of info on what the PS4 will have ready on launch.  Could be that Sony is having issues as well since I do not remember if actualy hardware has reach developers hands.

Hardware reached devs hands a long time ago.
