Forums - Gaming Discussion - Breaking: Nintendo sends direct message to Wii owners asking them to upgrade

Does Wii U have a marketing problem?

Yes 246 78.59%

Maybe 36 11.50%

No 30 9.58%

Total:312

OP, 3DS needed the same marketing campaign as people thought it was an upgrade.

What we have learned from the general public is they are stupid. They either need a NUMBEr on the end or a new name that is significantly different to know its new.

It's Nintendo fixing one of the mistakes they made with Wii U. Why the article contains such implied derision and criticism, I don't know. Obviously looking at Wii U's sales everyone knows it has a sales problem. Everyone has known for months there is a communication problem. Why is on Earth is it bad that Nintendo are trying to alter that?

Being that the the Wii was purchased primarily by non-gamers, I doubt 85% of the owners even will see that message because the console isnt even plugged into the internet.

%85... You're kidding right?

Casuals know how to use Wi-Fi on their phones, how would the Wii be a problem? It wouldn't.

I agree with you but %85 is to damn high!!

The neilsens reported higher internet use of the PS3 and 360 use while the system was still fresh. If it was lower than the PS3 and 360 almost every year of its existence. The chances of casual use of a gimmick wearing off is about a year to two years or less if no updates come. The novelty is replaced by something else, like Ipads, Kinects and other things of that ilk.

The chances are high to me the majority of the Wii fanbase isnt plugged in.

You realize some use the Wii for Netflix, Hulu+, and Amazon? Probably just dismiss it but if anything is a gimmick it is your comments.

You have zero facts to back up your bullshit statements. This is the last time I reply to any of your bullshit comments.

Yes some and neilsens last time I check stated that the highest the Wii got was probably 2011. You're very protective of Nintendo. The PS3 has the most usage of netflix than any other console. Nielsens even stated the Ipad and I products are higher on kids agendas today than the Wii U last year.

Just ignore this guy. Seriously he does nothing but speak negatively about Nintendo. He is a troll and why he even bothers reading Nintendo forums is a joke.

Although it shows how idiotic the marketing is, it's still around 100 million free adverts. So who's going to complain?

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

It's just sensationalism to play this off as a move of desperation. It's another channel for Nintendo to spread the word, why not use it?

To be honest though, how many people actually check those messages? My Wii has been sitting in the attic of my parents' house for the past couple of years.

Not sure about percentages, but I think you might be right. I bought mine in 2008, played a couple of games and almost haven't touched it since 2009, when I bought a ps3. It's still a good move from Nintendo, but I doubt enough people will read it to have any kind of effect on hd sales of wiiu.

Still, it's good to see them trying, but maybe they should invest some of that money they have on marketing around October and with a price cut see sales increase significantly.

I see 2 problems here:

1.How many "casuals" connected their system to the internet?

2. How many people that dont know what a WiiU is actually play their Wii right now so they could get that message?

That's actually an extremely smart move. i see nothing bad here.

I totally agree. This was an advertisment venue that cost them almost nothing and hit their target full on. Extremely well thought.

I like it!
