I disagree... I played Goldeneye theses days ago and the gameplay is better than any recente FPS... I don't know if the N64 controller is so good for it but the fact this game yet have the same revolucionary gameplay showed more than 10 years ago makes me really happy. Perfect Dark Zero even using the same formule is not on pair with Goldeneye. And Donkey Kong for SNES is yet better than NSMB for Wii U... and Killer Instinct better than the latest Mortal Kombat (of course Street Fighter IV is better than all of them but that's another case because the IV is the fist in the franchise to really make me fell like the old SFII are back). So I disagree because the old Rare games are the best yet and better than most games released today. |
If you think Goldeneye is better than any recent FPS... well you're out of touch with the modern consumer. I'll leave it to that.
The Rare games that have held up the best are 2D. Donkey Kong Country being their creme de la creme. But clearly NIntendo didn't need Rare to keep Rare's most popular series going.
Anyhow, my point was Rare's games haven't gone down in quality per se. They just haven't been in touch with the 360 audience nor have they been cutting edge like they were in the 90s. It was a hell of a lot easier and cheaper to be cutting edge in the 90s.
However, Rare did help bring a casual audience to the 360 with their Kinect support. Appealing to casuals is the reason MS bought them to begin with. So lets just be happy Rare is still around and found some success. As opposed to disappearing like many other studios.
