I am almost positive that P5 will have a "hook" mechanic like the last two. P3, The Evoker Gun. P4 is the TV. My bet for P5? Either internet Social Media, or Cell Phones. I think they like tapping into relavent material that allows to better relate.

I would also love if P4 cast came back, but I think the series is better suited with reinventing each game. They always throw a wink at the previous game tho which is cool. Maybe we could get a P4-2 0_o?!

I would really like to see older characters, the teenage thing is just a tad played out. Maybe College level? Some Otaku say that that is highly unlikely because the Japanese take College far more seriously and thy dont have any fun during that time period apparently. I call bull, but lets say that is true. Cathrine took place in the US! I think that could be a hint that they can/will depict a Western based storyline.

Entering the internet would be a pretty good hook. And it would be limitless. I remember an anime from a while back that went along those lines, Where they would kill them self’s to enter the ''Wire" something like that. I forgot what it was called. It could go along those lines.

They have to go adult this time, no matter what they do with the cast. Maybe they could skip the collage years all together and working it characters in their late 20’s.  Much like they did with Catharine. Plus they don’t have to stay to the school theme and would open a lot more possibilities. But how they would handle earning knowledge and popularity, I don’t know.

.Hack?

Remember the Social Link concept was something new they added. I would hate for them to get rid of that, I think that is actually the most unique and interesting part that seperates it from all the others. That doesn't have to change, because networking and creating social ties never stops in life, unless you are a hermit(get it? lol i kid). Now the Stats Wheel is another thing. The MC would have to be somekind of social retard who knows nothing about interacting with people so he can have some way of learning and evolving as the game goes on.

Which brings another question...

How do they out do P4's Main Character?! That guy had so much swag for a silent protaganist, it was astounding. And he felt very distinct from P3 MC too.

I think one way they could out do P4's MC is maybe have voice acting for every line that you could possibly say. However one of the reasons I thought P4 was also really funny was because any line that you said, it was kind of like you were saying it in your own voice. Idk how to explain it, like only you could understand how you would say the line.

It will be on ps3 for sure, no doubt about it, but the only thing that's up in the air is will it be on Vita as well with cross save. Persona 4 Golden has already sold 420k retail only (probably well over 500k with digital) which is half of the original which had an install base 40 times larger. Besides Persona games aren't very graphic heavy so porting it to Vita won't be much of a hassle.

On another note, I would cry if Persona 5 came to 3DS only. I have one so it wouldn't be the end of the world but I would feel like they would have to make too many compromises (Persona 3 Portable) that it would make the series take a step back.

Honestly I wouldn't even play it on the 3ds. I'd wait for them to realize their mistake. So they’ll port it to ps platforms. But really, I don’t think we have to worry about 3ds exclusivity. They know the platforms their games sale on.

so you wouldnt play a game from a series you love becuse its on the 3ds. i mean if i had the money i would get a vita just for persona 4

edit : i could see it on the 3ds  ps3 or wiiu im leaning towards the either the 3ds or wiiu since atlus is working with nintendo for  shin megami tensei x fire embel or a ps3 wiiu realses

its not really a thing of console loyalty or anything, its more so due to the comprimises that would need to be done just to get it on the console. Similar to what had happened to the PSP remakes and how the current 3DS ones are. No cutscenes, lots of still character art shots, and that battle system style I despise. Remember, these are pretty big games.

i didnt know that that  sound terrible  i couldnt see playing person 3 like that

Not that P3P is bad but the only reason to play it over FES is the female character. Not having cutscenes or 3D environment really makes P3P feel weird.

This couldn't be further from reality... The only thing that's difficult about Japanese university is getting in. The entrance exams can be hell, and that's why some people spend a year or more after graduating highschool, studying to get into their school of choice if they initially failed entrance, because it will dictate their life afterwards. Once in though, most people don't attend lecture half the time, barely study, the tests are a joke, and you're pretty much guaranteed to graduate as long as you have a minimum knowledge of the courses. Some courses it's literally possible to never go to class except for the tests, and pass by reading the online notes the day before. You spend most time with your circle or friends, going out, going to karaoke, playing video games, or whatever. It's the most relaxing 4 years of many Japanese people's life. Nobody cares about college grades, it's all about the name of the school you attended on the diploma.

I also believe in it being on consoles first then moving it to Vita. I see it for sure coming to the Ps3, probably next year with an official unveiling this fall. If it comes out on Vita and Ps3 however, I would probably get the Vita version, that is if its the exact same, nothing downgraded or anything. I could also see the game going to the Xbox 360, but that is just speculation based on Catherine also being on the 360. I would be upset if it was Nintendo exclusive however, especially the 3ds because the series would take a step back because of the limitations of the system. If it was Vita exclusive that would be excellent since gamers in Japan have been leaning towards handhelds more than home consoles.

In the case of story, I remember looking at the "fan" music channel AtlusXP5, and the main video is about ego and how it defines people. I think that the next game could focus on ego this time around because it was a really interesting topic and the video was pretty good.

I still want the basis to be in Japan, maybe living in an apartment in downtown Tokyo in maybe their adult years, 20-25 and finishing up College. I hope that instead of the traditional 1 year cycle, that maybe they can make the game span for 2 years, considering blu-rays have much more space than the dvds that the ps2 had. The internet scenario is pretty interesting though as you guys have brought up because Soul Hackers is kind of like that and the story is really interesting.

Edit: Someone mentioned the Wii U and SMTxFE on a reason why Persona 5 would go to that system. I really do not believe that has an influence at all-, because if you look at the trailer for the game, there are zero Persona characters in it. Its all SMT main series characters. Which leads me to believe that Atlus is going to keep the Persona franchise exclusive to the Playstation systems while other SMT games are going to stay with Nintendo, even though they could sell better on Playstation hardware lol.

If I had to decide between PS3 or Vita, would honestly go portable. I am doing that with most games these days. Sly 4, PSASBR, and soon FFX/X-2. I like being able to play AAA games while watching Netflix too.

AtlusXP5 work has been amazing. Was just listening to some of the music again before I started this thread lol. I think it has influenced my thoughts on the next game just as you. I love the idea of evolving certain gameplay elements which means something totally different.

-Getting a Summer Job for Fun= Turns into getting a Job just to make ends meet.

-Going to High School is a Mandatory = Going to College is a Privelege

-All relationships become a lot more serious as an adult, and finite too, with consequences.

I could see the scenario being everyone in the city has caught on to some new internet craze ala Facebook/Twitter. They all start baring their souls online for the world to see and eventually they get sucked in for real, leaving their lifeless body still sitting at the computer. Ties into the psychological atraction of conveying self importance to the world, etc.

PS:Mind=O better come to the US, do want!

I would love that too but I have a feeling that would piss some off for reasons you describe. It would be Dragon Age II all over again. Maybe give the option to toggle it on or off?

I just really need the next game to have the same kind of humor P4's Protaganist conveyed. He actually reminds me of me a lot. Hes super chill, gets along with just about everyone he knows, total babe and dude magnet on accident lol.

If I remember correctly from Persona 4 Arena's story mode, Elizabeth got the Fool Arcana card at the end. I think she now has the wild card to summon pretty much any persona she wants. It's crazy thinking how much OP she would be to have that ability AND everything else she had previously.

There could be a very slight possibility that we may be playing as her in P5. She did leave the velvet room to find a way to free Minato from his role as guardian, so it might be that is what we will be working towards in P5.

Either that or we get a brand new set of OCs. The theme could be something modern. I think P4 came out when TVs were really big, so this time it might be to do with utilising smartphones/tablets and the internet.

Yea I like buying games more on my Vita now than my Ps3 these days because I can play them anywhere instead of just sitting in one spot if I can. That scenario is really good, I think that instead of everyone it could be like certain people for some reason. Because if it were everyone, you really couldnt do much in the real world, like social links and all that, because everyone has fallen into the craze and are now sitting at their homes in front of their computers.

I really do hope Mind=0 comes to the US lol. It looks really good and I cant wait to see some more info on it!

Persona is going to stay on Sony platform and Devil Survivors stays on Nintendo Platform.
Meanwhile, STM main games will go to whichever has the larger installed base.

Well I am actually glad to hear that then (is it weird to be glad their education system is as shitty as ours in the US?) . Maybe it could work in P5 after all...
