Forums - Gaming Discussion - Am I the only person here who dislikes GTA?

So like, I used to love Grand Theft Auto as a teenager and stuff. So like, recently I downloaded GTA San Andreas on PSN and played it, and realized that at the core, the game itself isn't very good. At all. And it made me realize just how overrated GTA is. Like, seriously, the gameplay mechanics comes down to auto-aim shooting people, carpooling missions, making sure people don't die, retrieving this and that, and so forth. Furthermore the story is so ridiculous, like, I don't mind it doesn't take itself seriously. But seriously, at the core I simply don't enjoy the games anymore. I mean, all I do is run around and shoot people, drive cars...and that's it. It's like no one ever talks about GTA's story, no, they talk about how fun going on a rampage is. Like, seriously. Most people I know don't even complete the missions in GTA, they just go on rampages and play the mini-games in the game. That and the AI is downright terrible at times. Like, really, really bad.

It's like every GTA game is the same, ludicrous story and joke characters, auto-aim, carpool missions, rescue missions, assault missions, car jacking, etc. Like, it just gets boring after awhile. It's like, you just run around doing random shit the entire game that doesn't make any sense story-wise and what's worse is that most of the shit isn't even funny. Like, Grand Theft Auto is so overrated playing San Andreas recently seriously dropped all my hype for GTA V. I really don't find the appeal in GTA anymore, sorry.

I like Grand Theft Auto but I enjoyed Vice City and San Andreas more than GTA4. I havent played GTA in a long time though so the 5th might hit home with me better

The Playstation Underdog- Lord of the Persona series - General of the Playstation Nation!
Prediction: Shenmue 3 or Crash will be on PS4
I like it quite a bit. The main draw of gta games is to just go wild in the city.

Well since you got San Andreas I would say you should try Vice City or 3 also. I bought all 3 on the store recently and San Andreas has aged the worst by far. I struggled to finish it and the grinding to get enough territories at the end was really annoying. Also did the graphics get worse in San Andreas?

Lord of Ratchet and Clank

Duke of Playstation Plus

What I found boring about GTA is that it is TOO OPEN. Playing the missions and following the story makes for a better experience IMO. The stuff you do isn't pointless like you say it is, there's a reason for everything you do and if followed the story you would know about it. Try playing GTA IV. The old GTA games didn't exactly age well.

I don't know how to feel about GTA. I like open world, non-linear games that let you take on missions at your leisure and out of order, and I like it when they give you other things to do outside of the main plot, but I don't care for many of the things GTA has you doing. The idea of random drive-bys on innocent people, beating up ho's, selling drugs and blowing up precincts just for the hell of it doesn't sound appealing to me at all. I could bare it a little more if I'm given a reason for it in the story missions, but then I'm losing out on part of the appeal of the game.

I also hated the series for a while because I had cousins and then a college roommate that would never, ever play any missions and would just run around and do random criminal acts for no freaking reason. It would get on my last damn nerve, to the point where I'm like, "WILL U GO 2 DAT SPOT UND DO A FREEEKIN MISSION? SUMTING, INNYTING DO IT 4 ME, PL0X!!!"

Enjoyed most of the series.

Dont like the 2Desque ones like the first two games and China Town wars.

Least liked 3D gta game is IV - especially the driving controls >.>.

Most favorite 3D gta game is San Andreas!

Have you played GTA4? That would probably give you a better view of what to expect from GTA5.

When you're not spreading your propaganda or trolling/flaming, you're a pretty decent guy with some good points. I find myself agreeing with several things you've had to say about specific games.
