Forums - Gaming Discussion - New Dead or Alive 5 project coming to PS3 & Xbox 360

I really don't understand what Tecmo Koei are doing lately.

They're recycling their franchises more than ever. I mean, I know Dynasty Warriors gets recycled every year and they've been re-releasing Ninja Gaiden as often as they can since early in this generation.

But still.

Ninja Gaiden has had: Wii-U re-release; then PS3 & 360 versions of the re-release; Vita version of NGS2 (which itself was a PS3 version of NG2).

They've started recycling Atelier on Vita by releasing what is effectively a GOTY edition of the PS3 game with all the DLC on cart.

Dead or Alive 5 has already been ported to Vita earlier this year, and now they're doing something else with it.

Idk. It feels like they're running these franchises into the ground for very little - if any - profit. I'd have thought it would've been better for them to simply focus on new entries rather than continually tweaking games they've already made.

Especially in the quantities that they're selling these things (Atelier has done okay for itself, but all the remixed versions of Ninja Gaiden have sold horrifically badly. Not sure how DOA5+ has done because we're barely tracking it.)

What the hell.. I just bought the game a few weeks ago >_>

lol you got conned. By now you should know better to not purchase a fighting game until at least a year has passed since it's release to get the "Super" version.

If it's a fighting game by Capcom then make that waiting period 2 years to but the "Super Special Awesome" version of the game.

What about Tekken Tag Tournament 2?

Hmm... i might buy the Vita version at some point when its cheaper. Not interested in the 360/Ps3 versions. Unless they bring out more Virtua fighter characters... :x

Taking a chapter from Capcom's Book. The Multiple Edition Chapter - wont be long before we see them take SE's iOS/android chapter.

Thing is, Capcom franchises can kind of get away with that.  People seem to lap up (especially in Japan) buying 5 different versions of Monster Hunter Tri; I don't know the history of Street Fighter quite as well, but judging by the sales of SSFIV they seem to be doing for okay for themselves.

Clearly it's not working for TK.  NG3:RE sold peanuts across three platforms (something like less than 40k).  NGS2+ sold less than 20k on Vita (if it were tracked properly; we have it at less than 10k).  Ironically their biggest success of this kind has been from their smallest franchise, Atelier (70k physical + 10-20% digital in Japan + x sales from NA/EU PSN).

I'd guess that part of the difference is that those Capcom franchises are big to begin with compared to the Tecmo-Koei ones, but still.  I just don't see how they're making any money of porting any of these games.  They probably made some pocket change back from those Atelier sales (but nothing to write home about); I really don't know if they did make any money back from Razor's Edge since some maths I did a while back (using Barozi's pie chart of publisher costs & Ubisoft's $1.2 million estimate of porting to Wii-U) put "break-even" point at about 50k copies.

DoA5 is at Amazon for $20 now. I was going to wait for the new one, but thought about how long it'd be until it dropped down to a reasonable price range so just picked up DoA5 instead. I've seen a lot of posts that it being relabeled DoA5 that it's more than likely going to have the outfits and everything on disc, so I really don't care about that.

If I made a bad decision by changing my mind and not waiting, then I can always sell this one on Ebay and get atleast $15 in return. I'd be losing nothing more than the price of a rental for what would be a year before the next one hits $20.
