Why did MS let themselves take all the hate by not speaking, if Sony has the same policy?

They didn't, they just put their press release through their favourite website Polygon.

A very interesting twist on the always online rumours if true. I bet we'll have to wait until some brave soul in the press grills Sony and MS on their policies for real at E3 to know their true extent. I'm holding off on judgement till then.

MS will always get hated on, because sony fans and the media are rabid. When MS made the xbox it was too hardcore and shooter based, when MS made 360 it was still too hardcore even though it had a wide variety of games, when kinect came out MS "abandoned" the core gamer. This is just a continuation of past generations. No matter what MS gets hated on.

Adding new achievements just like that isn't exactly player-friendly. Well, I mean it can be but most likely it will be used to "force" players back to the game long after release when the achievement could really have been in the game in the first place. It's a good idea but I see more harm than benefit there.

Who is forced to what exactly?  I never cared about achievements and won't do next-gen. I don't see who forces me to anything with NextBox?

See the quotes. Many people care about achievements and I'm sure this rumored feature will be used as a cheap way to bring players back to old games.

But why are you assuming only harm? It's ok to be sceptical but why *always* think of the worst that can happen? Perhaps some gamers will see this as an extra value for old games?

Not the first time Ive heard the "up to developers" rumor.

If true it makes things very interesting. Which publishers will have the stones to try and go always online drm first. My money is on EA and if they do I fully expect a complete crash in their sales

The console community wants the option of pre owned games this is clear

100% Agree!!!

But remember Sony said the same thing for the Ps4.

Pre-owned games block on PS4 is "a publisher decision"

GameSpot asked Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida in a quickfire Q&A not if PS4 would block used games but whether second hand games will require an activation code on the console.

His answer: “It's a publisher decision. We are not talking about it. Sorry.”

Update: Speaking at a roundtable session with the press attended by Ars Technica, Shuhei Yoshida stated that "when you purchase the disc-based games for PS4, that should work on any hardware." When asked whether games would require online registration, Yoshida noted that that decision was up to the publisher. When asked if Sony, as a publisher, would require games to be registered online, Yoshida said, "we are not talking about that plan."

They answered the question about no used games by saying "when you purchase the disc=based games for PS4, that should work on any hardware". There's your answer.

As for games being required to be registered online, its a ridiculous question. Obviously publishers already have the option on PS3/360 games but don't do it for obvious reasons. They won't do it next-gen either.

hahahahaha!!!!

Why so defensive?

Are you mad?

chill out dude is only video games!!!!!lol

Not being defensive at all. Reported.

Publishers and developers want people to play their games and if they see people coming back by doing this, they'll do it. Most obvious benefit for publishers: people will stick to their games a bit more instead of selling them.  And yeah, maybe some people will see this as extra value but if I had to guess, most will see it as an extra chore.

But anyway, PS4 and NextBox are so similar why still argue?
