Forums - Nintendo Discussion - No Nintendo press conference at E3 2013

Nintendo is going to try and focus on the western audience this gen. Good god...I dont like the sound of this for the sake of the Asian market. Please do not alienate Japan. I have have a feeling like the PS4 and 720 will walk all over everything Nintendo has shown about the Wii U at E3 now. It's like they aren't even trying to fight it.

they will be on E3, only not in a MAJOR press conference

"Unlike previous years, we will not have a large-scale [E3] presentation directed to everyone in the world,” Iwata said according to the translation. “Instead, we are planning several smaller events focusing on software for America. Among these hands-on events will be one for American distributors and another for western media.”

Honestly don't blame them, E3 is sort of dying show. Lets be honest, we really do end up getting disappointed from all three companies every year.

They have nothing to show at E3... just it.

And anything that they show will be obfuscated by PS4 and Nextbox.

A weird play to say the least. Maybe they'll have their own press conference just like Sony and now the long awaited M$ are doing, the only and obvious difference being it could be after e3 and steal away momentum. A long shot though but you never know.

Lol at a failed thread.

I think they'll have atleast 1 massive system selling game. Mario Kart/party/galaxy, a Zelda, a Smash Bros maybe? More than enough to carry a short showing at e3. Smaller games also.

I do think this E3 will be huge though. Two new consoles to promote.

From the article, what they'll specifically be doing:

"We decided not to host a large-scale presentation targeted at everyone in the international audience where we announce new information as we did in the past," Iwata said. "Instead, at the E3 show this year, we are planning to host a few smaller events that are specifically focused on our software lineup for the U.S. market. There will be one closed event for American distributors, and we will hold another closed hands-on experience event, for mainly the Western gaming media."

I can't believe they're not going to broadcast a conference...I understand that NDirect has become their big thing but surely E3 is a great way to communicate with people that might not watch a Nintendo-specific stream online? Many casual and MSony customers, for example? Ugh..

We may have been disappointed in the past, but it's next gen we're talking about. Of course it's going to be huge this year with MS and Sony showing their next gen consoles. It's the beginning of a new era.

Kinda how the PS3 failed against the Wii.

I agree with you.
