Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo not holding traditional E3 press conference this year?

I'm not bothered by this decision at all. You're still getting the same software that they would have announced if there was a press conference. The only difference is, they aren't spending as much money showing it to you. I think there are many things to worry about with Nintendo, this shouldn't be one of them.

They have nothing to show at E3... just it.

And anything that they show will be obfuscated by PS4 and Nextbox.

Did he really?

It's not a false or outlandish reasoning. Maybe they don't have enough software to justify an event of such magnitude. Maybe they want to prevent unnecessary expenses. It's not is if he was spreading hate on a positive thread anyway. It was mere speculation on some rather divisive news.

New post but similar from the other thread.

Kinda like how the ps3 failed against the Wii right?

Sony would kill to have a franchise close to one of Nintendo's top 5.

3D Mario, Mario Kart, X, Yoshi Yarn, Bayonetta 2, Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, Shin Megami x Fire Emblem, Retro Studios game....yeah they definitely don't have anything to show at E3.

Honestly don't blame them, E3 is sort of dying show. Lets be honest, we really do end up getting disappointed from all three companies every year.

I do think this E3 will be huge though. Two new consoles to promote.

From the article, what they'll specifically be doing:

"We decided not to host a large-scale presentation targeted at everyone in the international audience where we announce new information as we did in the past," Iwata said. "Instead, at the E3 show this year, we are planning to host a few smaller events that are specifically focused on our software lineup for the U.S. market. There will be one closed event for American distributors, and we will hold another closed hands-on experience event, for mainly the Western gaming media."

I can't believe they're not going to broadcast a conference...I understand that NDirect has become their big thing but surely E3 is a great way to communicate with people that might not watch a Nintendo-specific stream online? Many casual and MSony customers, for example? Ugh..

While you may have a point, I have also noticed that historically, announcements of home consoles at E3 underwhelmed at best and the older opposing console often shows it's sheer brilliance and demonstrates why they should buy it over the new competitor.

I'm not saying that would have been the case, but it could have been a chance for Nintendo.

Largely why i'm torn (and i wasn't making that post in my capacity as a mod, either). Soundwave has some good insight, but his determination to see Nintendo's glass as half-empty starts to rub me the wrong way after a while.

If you have nothing to add other than idiotic fanboy dribbel and feetle attempts to raise the e-peen of your precious Sony, please don't bother posting.

It's either a petty attempt at trolling, or you haven't been following the video game industry for the past several months.

Hmm, it feels like a two-sides of the coin. And try to weigh in the pros and the cons for either side...

On one side, go big blockbuster, traditional way and sway gamers from the other company, but at the cost of mix messages/signals/lost in noise that could bring would-be players...
And on the other side, do a different aproach and make smaller devisions each set for their own core purpose, but risking alienating potential gamers that adores the accostumed big show...

I hope this pays off for Nintendo and do another Wii-take scenario. O.o
