Liege

Story, Tactics, and Art.

  • Liege is a party-based, tactical role-playing game for PC, Mac, iOS and Android.
  • Liege is a game that's inspired by Japanese RPG classics, chess, and others.
  • Liege is an interactive epic about ordinary people like us, placed in fantastic, larger-than-life circumstances. In equally vague terms, it's a game about family, power, love, death, and other way serious, totally heavy things.
  • Liege is being planned as a trilogy with a continuous story arc, with the first release scheduled for early 2014.

Here's what I think will make this game special:

  • The Story - Mature narrative & story driven gameplay
  • The Tactics - Elegant, seamlessly integrated tactical combat
  • The Art - Unique, high-definition, lovingly hand-drawn art
One late autumn eve in the Kingdom of Liege, a King, his queen, and their royal heirs fall into a deep slumber from which they never wake.

…and so our story begins. Following their mysterious deaths, a power struggle in the royal court ensues, and as the conflict quickly escalates, the Kingdom plunges into a bloody civil war. As war erupts across the land, we track the converging paths of characters aligned across various factions, from the noble houses vying for the throne, to the orphaned Royal Army, to an underground movement of outlaws with plans to incite revolution amidst the chaos.

The playable cast

Liege is a story that is written for an adult audience. It's a drama about conflicted, intertwined, and human characters, forced to wage war for their lives and their homeland.

tl;dr: War epic for grown folk. Think more GoT, less FFXIII- in RPG form!

Satellite Reign

by 5 Lives Studios

A real-time, class-based strategy game, set in an open world cyberpunk city, from the creator of Syndicate Wars.

Satellite Reign is a real-time, class-based strategy game. You control a team of four agents, each with distinct and unique abilities, collectively battling for control of a fully simulated, living cyberpunk city.

The game world is designed to facilitate emergent gameplay, giving you the tools and freedom to play how you want to play, so you can create strategies and scenarios that not even we had anticipated!

Customise your team with the strength to destroy your enemies head-on, or hack into their facilities to manipulate their infrastructure without them ever knowing you were even there.

Will you take down your enemies with brute-force? Covert espionage and infiltration? Or will you use propaganda to influence the citizens of the city and overthrow the controlling powers?

Satellite Reign will be released on Windows, Mac OS and Linux.

The world's governments are controlled by mega-corporations, democracy to the highest bidder. Society is structured for the benefit of those in power. The poor exist in the dark squalid underbelly of the city, while the wealthy swim in opulence and luxury on the upper tiers, and the vast middle-class are too comfortable with their lives of convenience to see the world for what it really is. Corporate police patrol the streets, brutally maintaining the status quo, all under the guise of keeping the people safe.

The time for change is now, as a mysterious organisation rises from the slums of the city. They'll have to bribe, steal, hack and augment their way through the barriers between them and their ultimate goal...but what are they trying to achieve?  To free the masses from the corporate stranglehold, or to take control for themselves?  That, is up to you.

This is one big, open, living metropolis. The city isn't just a cool location (although it is pretty cool), it actually functions like a city; the streets are bustling with people by day, and controlled by criminal organisations by night. Power grids actually power the city, information and finances flow from one district to another, and you can use all of these things to your advantage.

The entire game-world is designed around emergent gameplay. Civilians, police and corporate soldiers will all react uniquely to your actions. Power conduits, communication networks and security systems are there for you to hijack, modify or destroy. Learn how the city and its inhabitants operate, then exploit them all to advance your agenda.

The city is huge and you can move around and tackle objectives however you want to. You won't be spoon-fed one mission after another, you'll be able to use whatever means you can to get to your final goal. Bribe scientists to advance your technologies, and kidnap doctors to augment your agents. Steal money from the banks to fund your war against the corporations, and exploit neural implants to bend the will of others. Or, try to take your objectives through good old-fashioned brute-force.

Distinct character classes give you total control over how you approach a situation. Different classes with different combinations of augmentations, gear and weapons gives you the ability to customise your team and your experience.

Not every problem is easily solved by shoving a gun in its face. Sometimes the situation requires a bit more subtlety, a bit more finesse. Try siphoning cash out of the corporate account, bribing a bank manager to “misplace” his security pass, or steal the identity of a corporate soldier to pass through security checkpoints unseen.

Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm

Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm, an original 2D fighting game by an Japanese indie game development team comprised of three former SNK / King of Fighters staff. The purpose of the campaign is to power up and complete the game that has our labor of love for the last six years: Yatagarasu.

With your support, we will add new characters, new features, and fully localize the game to into a new version that we will bring to gamers all over the world: Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm!

Yatagarasu is an original 2D fighting game for PC (Windows) which features 8 playable characters, high quality old school graphics, and gameplay that is easily accessible to anyone. You can see the trailer for the latest version of Yatagarasu in our IndieGogo Gallery.

We’ve worked hard to make Yatagarasu a fighting game that everyone can enjoy by creating a simple structure and straightforward gameplay without the clutter of lots of unnecessary features. Our game also features a completely unique commentary system which provides dynamic commentary in real time based on developments in the match.

Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm will bea brand new version of Yatagarasu with all-new new characters and many new features, and which will be fully localized into English for gamers around the world.

Our small team has being developing Yatagarasu with limited funding for six years.  Developing a 2D fighting game is extremely time-consuming and expensive, but we’ve made up for our lack of resources by putting lots of time into the game. But, progress on development has been slow and we are not sure that we will be able to continue developing the game with this approach.

We are seeking funding to allow us to make a leap in progress and also to add new elements that we otherwise might not be able to include. A successful funding campaign will allow us to do this and complete the game we have always wanted to make: Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm.

Our campaign is for flexible funding, which means that we will still receive most of the contributions provided, even if we are unable to reach our funding goal. In this case, we will proceed with work on Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm and use the contributions we have received to fund as much as possible of the new features and improvements. We will make up for the shortfall in funding wherever possible by putting more time into development, but progress on teh game will be much slower.

*Screenshot from an earlier version

If we reach our funding target of $68,000, we will add the below new features. Each item has the required cost listed to show how all of the funds will be used.

New Character: Kotaro ($20,000)

Includes pixel art, character portrait, voice over, story writing, game play balancing, etc. The actual cost of character creation is $25,000, but to improve the chances of adding her, we will self-fund the remaining $5,000 for Kotaro.

New Character: Azure ($25,000)

MC Voiceover by Koori Masao ($2,000)

TOUGEKI announcer Koori Masoi will join as the Yatagarsu Attack on Cataclysm's official MC. He will announce the player’s names and affiliations at the start of a match, and MC and comment on match highlights after the match has finished. This will add a new level of excitement that is totally unique to Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm.

English Localization ($4,000)

Nyu Media will fully localize the game menus, text, dialogue and graphics into English.

English Language Dynamic Commentary! ($4,000)

One of Yatagarasu’s standout features is the edgy commentary system and provides dynamic commentary in real time based on developments in the match. English commontary by famous overseas tournament commentators and players (to be announced!) will be added!

New Japanese Commentary ($2,000)

The commentary will be completely revised and powered up, including newly recorded commentary by renowned Japanese fighting game player Kokujin.

Creation of a New Trailer ($2,000)

New trailers will be newly created in both English and Japanese.

IndieGogo Perks Creation ($5,500)

IndieGogo fees and other costs ($3,500)

In addition, the below improvements and additions will be made that will be self-funded by the development team.

New, High Quality Graphics

New graphics by Yatagarasu dev team member Kotani:Tomoyuki.

Game Play Improvements and Game Balancing Overhaul

Together with adding the new characters, we will review and completely rebalance game play, add powerful new moves, and make the game even more accessible and fun to play.

Story Rewrites

Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm will have new story developments along with the new characters.

Improved Online Support

We will add error resolution and high speed networking, and make online match support even more smooth. A new team play function will be added, so you can fight team versus team matches. A new “My Icon” function will be added that allows icons made by players to be used in the game.

NESiCAxLive Version

See above for details about Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm's arcade debut!

Collaboration with Taito Station

In collaboration with Taito Station, MC Koori will appear and MC at actual Taito Station arcades. What’s more, other arcade centers are being added to the participation list! (Japan only)

Around the Network

I'm a little annoyed by Larian and Divinity Original sin. The game has already been in production for at least two years at a studio with dozens of employees, meaning the game's budget is at least $5 million, if not $10 million.

So what difference is $1 million (which is the high end of what their campaign can generate, they humbly started by asking for $400K) additional money really going to do? Not much. And this game was already independent of any publisher input right from the beginning. Their whole KS campaign is in essence just free marketing.

And this trend is happening with all PC exclusive games (except for the mammoths like Diablo, Total War and SimCity), to use KS simply as a marketing tool under the disguise that it lets "the community to be involved" and impacts the content.

The worst thing about this is that it probably competes for the Kickstarter Dollars that gamers are spending, which will hurt those independent studios who really need the crowd's funding, but I'm not totally against this trend because it allows one to look inside the studios a little bit and watch the development process from a different perspective, but I want to treat it for what it is.

They stated clearly right from the beginning that the game would be made with or without kickstarter funds - they went to kickstarter because they wanted additional funds to hire more artist / programmers etc to add more things into the game, there is no duplicity and even if it is benefiting for the additional exposure, I have no issue with their method or execution (which is extremely polished).

I would like to also put in a recommendation for Battle Worlds: Kronos:

This is a very polished looking turn-base strategy game aping the classic Battle Isle, the Dev has been working on this game for a while already and it looks polish enough to be ready for alpha as of writting. The Kickstarter fund is being used to hire outside contractors for stuff like the music, sound effect and voice acting so we've been given a solid turnaround time of Dec 2013 for the finish product.

Given what the dev has shown and the fact that they have delivered execellent finished product in the past before (The Book of Unwritten Tales ), I am fairly confident in calling this a 'super safe kickstarter bet' and definitely worthy of your attention if you enjoy classics like Battle Isle or Advance Wars.

C-Wars is really nice. And you can already play it! I would also recommend to look into Road Redemption.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

While I generally agree I think you are over estimating how much they have spent on the game, Larian Studios has ~40 employees but most of them have been working on Divinity: Dragon Commander (and several smaller projects) not Divinity: Original Sin which is more of a side project.

Oh I forgot about that game. Do you think it's still in development? Was it supposed to be a console game (along with PC)?

Releases in July for PC, console versions are still TBA I think. The higher pledge tiers for D:OS include a copy of Dragon Commander.

$65 bucks for 2 copies of Original Sin AND a copy of Dragon Commander.

Kickstarter a great way to score cheap product on day 1 release.

And people should use it to pre order those 2 games. Because I want NPC schedules and DAY/Night cycle lol. Even tho I will probably only play these games for like 10-15h and get bored anyway.
