I think Nintendo should take the hint from consumers and not force the Wii U to not be a mandictory controller. After viewing Spliter Cell Wii U trailer, its quite clear that whatever third party titles come to the Wii U, its main;y going to be use for one or two things, inventory and maps. It's quite to have the map in your hand, I come to think why the heck do I need this if I already have a habbit of doing it the old fashion way, using a regular controller. I think Nintendo should start shipping the Wii U with both a Pro Controller and gamepad, but make the gamepad an optional controller because surfing the web, Miiverse and playing off screen is pretty much the only use the gamepad should have, like how the Kinect is to Xbox and the move is to the playstation. Don't make it manditory, make it an optional device and make the Wii U Pro Controller mandictory. On a personal note: I hate gaming on the gamepad, though its a really well design controller, I feel it wasn't built for everyone because not everyone is going to want to play a game while holding a screen.

No, that would take away the most important part of the console. If the gamepad was optional, developers wouldn't add off-tv play to their games. Also, the gamepad is something that can encourage people that might own a Wii U and a PS4 to get the Wii U version of 3rd party games, for the extra features.

That is not happening. The pad works great for monter hunter. And when has splinter cell decided anything. When the games made just for the gamepad come all will make sense.

There are already so many options for controllers. You have the Wii U peripherals and the Wii peripherals.

Then the Wii U could be in truble then, but I'm just guessing at this point. It could have an audiences of appeal, it just haven't grab my atendtion yet. I feel awakward playing on the gamepad and most of the time, I never use the screen so it sort of feel pointless already.
