While I don't approve of cigarette smoking I also do not approve of prohibiting ADULTS from purchasing them. I also think the drinking age should be lowered to 18 for the same reason.

If you want to give adults time to grow up enough to drink responsibly then the drinking age probably shouldn't begin until at the earliest 25, though that still seems far too early.

A lot of evidence would suggest that people who have access to alcohal while young (Wine with special dinners, a beer here & there) are less likely to engage in dangerious binge drinking when they become of age.

If only it was done away from others. Too many days of walking on a campus through smoke screens. >_>
I know they get off on banning things, but maybe it would save time if they just tell New Yorkers what they are permitted to do.
I'm not in favor of consuming any of these items to tell you the truth. However, I'm not entirely in agreement with bans though. To me, I think they should make them much less accessible to the underage consumers. As for adults, make it more expensive and difficult to consume. :)

What good could possibly come from suddenly altering American culture and allowing stupid 18 years to legally buy and drink as much as they want. We have enough teen-alcohol related problems already. If 18 years could always drink than maybe the culture would have kept most of them responsible. We can't trust our teens to drive without texting and you want to let them drive to and from liquor stores? We can't even trust adults in this country to drink responsibly.
Honestly the world would be a much better place if we all just stopped using drugs. Yes alcohol and cigarettes are drugs too. As someone who doesn't drink or smoke and who lives a very happy life I just don't understand why the world is so obsessed with altering their state of mind with chemicals.
I'm not calling for a law and I'm not a fan of New York's nanny state laws either, but I really do think the world would be better without booze. It would certainly smell better without cigarettes. That is for sure.
