Forums - Sales Discussion - Australian Nintendo DS and Wii sales figures

Melbourne, Australia, 30 January, 2008 – Nintendo announces sales figures for Nintendo DS and Wii in Australia*: Independent market research company GfK Australia, confirms that Nintendo DS has reached more than one million** units, 153 weeks since launch, and Wii surpassed 300,000 units, at 58 weeks since launch. This makes both Nintendo DS and Wii officially the fastest selling consoles to reach these milestones.

Nintendo DS was the biggest selling console for 2007, selling through 509,869 units. In December alone, 133,691 Nintendo DS units were sold. In the process of becoming the fastest console to 300,000 units, Wii sold 73,318 units in December, making it the second highest selling console behind Nintendo DS for the key Christmas period.

Six of the titles featured in the top 10 console games for 2007 were Nintendo titles. These titles were Pokémon Diamond, Brain Training, Pokémon® Pearl, More Brain Training, nintendogs Dalmatian & Friends and Super Mario Galaxy.

The Christmas period saw a rush on both consoles, which caused the Nintendo DS and Wii to be in high demand prior to Christmas. The Nintendo DS’ appeal is that it is a portable video game console with dual screens; wireless communication abilities and unique game control via voice and touch recognition.

Very impressive indeed, the DS has only recently become readily available again and the Wii shortages continue at least in my state anyway.

Around the Network

Wow, given that the PS2 has sold around 2 million in 7 years, half a million DS units in 2007 is incredible. Wii sales are impressive too. Well done Nintendo Australia. :D

I just wish they would pay more attention to neglected Nintendo gamers here in NZ. :(
