trying to derail the thread? You're trying to belittle me in some way? Why do you feel the need to do that?

What... why would you message me about this just to quote me now? I don't think defining words is belittling someone. I defined foolish because in your quote it said it was lack of intellegience. Which, as you can see is not the case.

By over a million. Which, considering the Ps3 probably didn't have 10mil sales at the time would be a crap load.

no, the gap didn't increase a million when ps3 started to sell in europe.

release of the ps3 was end of march in europe. the gap between ps3 and 360 was ~8.2m before that and from then, the gap was never really bigger.

360 sold a tiny bit more as ps3 in 2008 but ps3 sold much more as 360 in 2009 as it did in 2010 or 2011 or so...

Maybe that's what I was thinking of. Anyway being consistantly outsold to consistantly outselling is a comeback in any definition of the word

I understand where you're coming from. I've thought this myself on occasion, because the PS3 did start alright and maintained it all the way up to 2009 when the slim gave it renewed momentum. In 2007 & 2008 there wasn't really much of a difference between the two HD consoles in sales.

Again, I just think it has to do with perception. All around the internet; even all through the gaming media, the console was constantly called out as being doomed and a failure. Overpriced; no games etc. etc. People expected more from the successor to what could well end up being the highest selling home console of all time and complete and utter dominant force in the market.

So yeah. The comeback wasn't in terms of sales, because despite everything it has sold 'alright' from the beginning. The comeback was in terms of perception of the console and the brand. In my opinion.

but it was never consistently outsold, that's the point of this thread. ps3 did never sell worse a 360 when it was on every major market and it is pretty obvious that 360 sold more as ps3 when ps3 was not on the market or only in usa and japan.

ps3 was never really weak (as long as you don't compare it with ps2), it just had a later release.

This is a very good point!!

It's incredibly naive to ignore the Wii here...

I fully agree with the OP.

All the doom and gloom talk in the beginning of PS3 life was caused by the fact it wasn't selling at PS2 levels. PS3 never had bad sales.

Also, Kutaragi's arrogance in 2006 made a lot of people in the press wish Sony to fail. That's Why there were so much doom talk about PS3 back in 2007.

i didn't ignore the wii, i already talked about that in my first post if you forgot it. the reason is because the wii sales started to be shit, not because 360 or ps3 increased their sales so greatly to overtake the wii. ps3 didn't come back against the wii, the wii sales started to fail by it's own.

and most people always only talked about 360 and ps3 and always said wii is not a competiton because it's not a hd console and whatever so even if wii would be still strong but ps3/360 even stronger, why does wii count now? it didn't count for most when it was strong...

same with 360, it didn't have a great comeback just because wii doesn't sell so much anymore.

i really think playstation fans should start to think more that ps3 was always a decent console with nice sales and not such a fail like some think. yes it never sold as much a ps2 but that isn't different now and ps2 was a huge exception in the home console market.
