Forums - Sony Discussion - Heavy Rain cost €16.7 million to make and made Sony "more than €100 million"

$60M profit for Sony. I hope Beyond performs even better.

$16m is way lower than I would have thought. The game was in development for a long time with 180 employees listed on their website. They must be pretty well managed. Uncharted also reportedly only cost $20m which really makes you wonder how some teams can spend $50m and up just the development.

I think far too many people are getting stuck on determining exactly how much profit Heavy Rain made and derailing the thread, when the overall message was that developers can make a profit off of non-mainstream and inventive games with lower budgets, instead of flooding the market with sequels with astronomical budgets.

I'm pleased to hear this, if only because it shows that you don't need bloated budgets and unrealistic expectations.

I really hope in the future more games get developed in this mindset. Just keep things realistic. Manage teams within budgets that are likely to have good returns. Then when expectations are exceeded, it's a cause for celebration. If it's not a success? Not a massive loss. I don't think Heavy Rain suffered in quality terms at all; on the contrary, I feel it's a very well presented game.

So yeah. More like this to keep the industry going forward, please.

This is amusing to read. While we argue about sales on this site, about what's successful and what's not, reading the perspective of gamers who don't regularly follow sales numbers and really have no clue is very entertaining, especially given the bias.

Recently learned of the existence of this game. Looks very interesting, will pick it up if I run into it for cheap.

$20 not cheap enough for a quality retail game?

LOL is this where all the Xbox fanboys congregate? Why would they even talk about a game that's not on their console on a site that's specifically for their console?

I am the Playstation Avenger.

you know, most people on this forum do nothing else, they talk about consoles or games they don't own.

i even think all of us do it here.

and many people own more than one console so yeah, even if they are in such a forum they can still own another console.

but wtf? i thought xbox republic was something on vgchartz, why does the banner on that site look almost like the banner in the sig of some here and is already years old?
