Forums - General Discussion - Are you smarter than me?

Do you think you're smarter than most people on this sight?

Yes 222 64.35%

No 48 13.91%

See results 75 21.74%

I'd be curious if we asked "Are you smarter than the average person on the street", whether we would get the same percentage of people saying yes/no.

Tough to say really. Some people put on an intellectual air on the inter web, but in real life they're devoid of any real substance. I can't say since I don't know you very well, nor do I know anything about the other posters here. I don't want to be 'that guy' to list my degrees to show how smart I am, but then again, I've met people with degrees who are severely lacking in common sense, and have what I call low 'social intelligence'. And that raises the question of what kind of intelligence we are talking about here.

That would be interesting. I would love to see the response of somebody from a place like Boston since the average person has at least tertiary level education. Likewise, I would love to see the response of somebody in a situation on the other end of the spectrum.

I'm as smart as Forrest Gump.

By what do you define "smart"? If it is about the IQ, then probably yes. My IQ is at ~130

I'm 150, and so is my brother.

Actually I am just gonna come out and say that most of the incredibly stupid things I see are from ignorance.  Too many people on this site think they know computer tech when really, they need to spend a lot of time educating themselves before they say something silly like "RAM doesn't affect performance."

I voted yes as I assumed that the average person on this site would be of "average" intelligence.
I know I am smarter than the average person, but I have no idea where I rank among those with higher intelligence. Currently, there are not very many people I see as on the same level as myself. This may have a lot to do with the fact that I am not surrounded by smart people. I would know my place better if I actually was around more people who are smart, and not those who just think they are but in reality are flaunting exaggerated feats.

"Smart" is such an abstract term. I'm a double major in Biochemistry and Physics and I'm about to start Medical school, yet I know jack about cars compared to my local mechanic. My friend is an Arts major and she knows more about art history, types of art, etc than me. My other friend is a finance major and I'm hoping to have her handle my finances and accounting in the future when I run a clinic because I am not "smart" in the subject (I tried accounting and I felt dumb during it).

So to answer your question, yes I am smart in the sciences (and a few other subjects), but I'm average to dumb in almost everything else.

ill answer the poll once you are done making it. and yes i am smarter than the average joe. im also smarter than the average rocket scientist as well. yes i am that smart

Rocket Science is not hard. It's essentially the science of propulsion which is based on Newtons Third Law. I never understood why people always think Rocket Scientists are so bright.

I voted smarted then you, but it's just the odds. My IQ is like 142 ish, but that's a test I had done as a kid when they emitted me to gifted. LOL when I did that test, I scored above the measurable values in problem solving, I literally got above perfect, and they didn't have a grading system to encompass that. However my math score was only high, and english was only above average.
