Obviously, it was pretty predictable that the yes answer would win - people think that they are above average drivers for no good reason, why not smarter too?

Additionally, it is probably the case that people who think they are smart (or are smart) are more likely to enter this thread.

Furthermore, there are very few people who are good at everything. I myself can pick up maths, physics and programming very quickly, but struggle with anything to do with music - If I were to meet Mozart, I would be thinking: "I am much better at maths than him, and maths is clearly a better indicator of intelligence than music, therefore I am smarter than him." While he would be thinking of himself as smarter than me because music is clearly a better indicator of intelligence. We tend to rate more highly the importance of things we are good at (and be good at the things we rate as more important).

Amusingly enough, when people are asked about how good they are at not being biased about things, most people will rate themselves as above average.

I think you mean 95th percentile.  All it takes to be in the top 95% is to not be in the bottom 5%...

And OT: Of course I am smarter than most on here. And by that I mean socially smart, street smart and intelligent.

95% of people are in the top 95% smartest people in the country. I'd rather be in the top 5%, lol

Not one bit, but it makes people think I'm smart without me needing to say much.

Throughout my life, people have said that I was smart.  I didn't think I were smart, but really was just knowledgable about the subject.  So, in response to when they had called me smart, I always told them I just happen to know about the subject. 

In my opinion, there's no such think as smart.  Even those with 150+ IQ's could be total idiots.  Idiotic by there actions, their choices, their believes, so on.  What we call smart is just too general of a discription.  Is smart the wisdom we use, the knowledge we know, the capability to retain information or maybe all of it.  

No, I make bad decisions, I don't know too much and years of smoking the mary J have ruined my recollection.  I am not smarter than anyone here that I know of.

Do you think an average person would say something like this? You realize facts about the world better then most, IMO. Heck, I think you might be smarter then me, I have too much of an ego to admit what you said in your last sentence.

See, this is why I advocate the definitions I used in my last post.

If you already knew about the subject, then you're simply knowledgeable.

However, if you didn't know anything about the subject, but realized through reasoning and thinking certain important things, then that is what I refer to as intelligence.

People with +150 IQs are of really high intelligence if they got that score without practicing or in any way getting ready for an IQ test, or if they haven't taken "high" level math (cause in that case IQ tests are very easy).
