Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Reggie:Wii U Releases will "Dramatically Increase"

They will. It can't be avoided. Nobody goes out to buy Nintendo consoles without a Nintendo game. No matter what the franchise. First party titles should go hand in hand with the hardware.

From 1st parties we could see

June-Game & Wario

July-Wii Fit U

August-Pikmin 3

September-Wind Waker

October-Yarn Yoshi

November-3D Mario

December-Mario Kart

Thats not including any unnanounced games or any from 3rd parties

You're also forgetting the 15 or so known VC games plus countless others that will be upgraded from WiiVC through rest of year.

Pokemon Rumble U, Wii Party U,  and Wonderful101.

Doesn't take much to see a dramatic increase when the baseline is close to 0 first-party games in a while.

We all know that Mario Kart and the like is coming though, but I would hope they have a price cut to go along with the games too.

Yup, I'm personally expecting a $50 price cut to coincide with the launches of 3D Mario, Mario Kart 8, the PS4 and 720 in November. I'm quite confident that the Wii U is going to have an installed userbase over 10m before the end of the year.

I'm also pretty confident that the PS4 and 720 are going to be supply constrained and even if they sell well Sony and Microsoft won't be able to keep up with the demand. And that's also a pretty big 'if' too considering that both consoles are going to be more expensive than the Wii U.

yup and Watch Dogs, AC 4, COD, Batman, Splinter Cell, Rayman, Destiny, Deus Ex, Injustice, RE Revelations. A pretty solid 1st year line up.

What I really can't understand for the life of me is what Nintendo was doing that whole year before Wii U launched where they completely stopped supporting Wii? You'd think they would have been using all that time to develop plenty of great first party Wii U games that could keep it going its first 6 months or so. But no, we still have ended up with a total drought during that time. Basically since Skyward Sword Nintendo has only released one other high profile home console title, and that's NSMB U. And that's a fine game and all, but it's certainly not revolutionary and something that used up all that game developing time. So what were they doing the last year and a half or so? Twiddling their thumbs? I know my Wii U will eventually be a worthwhile purchase, I mean just look at the 3DS now, but Nintendo has pretty much put the nail in the coffin for me supporting their systems at launch. I mean there's just no point.

I think it simply takes time to tranistion from SD to HD development. It's a huge leap and it is taking time. They could have released games sooner perhaps but I think that Pikmin 3 was delayed in order to further polish the finished product. If you spent 3 years developing the game isn't it worth delay a few extra months in order to release a more compelling game?  I don't think that it was planned this way but it ended up happening. Nintendo know it's more important for their games to be great than on time. They're not activision.  I do believe they are working on a lot of games and once they start releasing games for wiiu there will be a steady drumbeat of great games being delivered.

I don't think 3D Mario is happening this year. I think they will get Mario Kart U come hell or high water though, even if they have to put all of Retro on the game to assist EAD.

Wonderful 101 is probably pushed into fall 2013 now.

I think we should wait and see if Wii-U actually gets COD and what kind of version it will be.

I think it will if PS360 get it. I guess they werent happy with Black Ops 2 sales but what were they expecting? It will probably end up selling 300-500k and the next title could very well pass 1 million. I know thats not nearly what is sells on the PS360 but its a console with a very small userbase.
