You could just make bigger and longer games. Then again they already do.

I said it before but I hope PS4 and NeXbox blocks used games.  As long as they both make the commitement together their shouldnt be a backlash from the community.  Sony has been shady about the situation and Microsoft hasn't said anything yet but I'm hoping if one does it the other does it as well or it will be useless.  I'd like them to be 100% honest about the situation.

There will be a MAJOR backlash if both PS4 and 720 block used games. Not from me, however. I will simply be sitting back enjoying my games on 360/Wii U/PC while everybody goes nuts about Sony and MS's newest consoles blocking used games.

People will get annoyed but they will buy it anyways.  The industry is going to go through a change now or later so you might as well get use to it and shut up about it.  I hate the meme #JustDealWithIt but yes just deal with it.  People will moan and groan but when games like Halo 5, Battlefield 4, Gran Turismo 6, etc, etc  comes out people will buy them because they must have them.  The only people that will throw tantrums are the people on forums and they will move on like they always do.

I will absolutely deal with it, buy not buying them. If it means I have to give up gaming, so be it. Plenty of other things I can do in my life. But I will never buy a console that blocks used games, and if all of my console options end up blocking them, then I guess I have to find a new hobby, or I'll stick with retro gaming.

Fine.  millions of others won't care so really your opinion or option means nothing to the industry

I have to disagree with you here Jay. If they decide to go and block used games there will be no AAA game production sustenance. In Japan AAA games have no effect. In Europe laws protect consumer in this case better than the US. In the US with the state of economy 90% of people won't buy $60 games every month to satisfy their gaming thirst. I will start to play Uno and spades.

Disagree.  With day 1 and week 1 sales of many games including Call of Duy, Halo, Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid etc we see explosions of sales.  These are people willing to buy games day 1 at full price.  Then as weeks go buy and word of mouth goes around 100's of thousands of people buy it.  Then through price drops and time they sell more and more.  For the people not willing to buy at full price there is price drops.    This is why you see games selling millions of copies.

Jay How long do I have to wait for Modern Warfare 3 price to go down a dollar on XBLA? It was released on 11.08.2011 and its price is still $59.99.

C'mon Jay don't be naive.

How will game collecting evolve without used games?

There you go.......plus where are all thoes un-usable used games going if they're not going to new homes where other people can play them? Oh probably at a landfill somewhere. Yeah thats not a big deal to the enviornment. Plus even if they do ban used games, that won't stop people from modding their console or PCs.

And how many of those day 1 sales are funded by trade ins? Out of the last 8 day 1 games I've bought, I've only kept 3. The rest traded in for $30 - $35 credit towards the next purchase. Sell $60 titles digitally for $30 on day 1 and I'll bite. Still I would prefer the trade in route, so when In find that gem I want to hold on to I can put it on the shelf with the other gems.

One of the few moments where the PC elitist in me cannot stop laughing.

Do you hear many Steam owners screaming that they can't sell the games ?

Similar case with retail games. Sure you can sell them, but the future purchaser knows that due to the key that comes with each game it's not possible (or highly risky) to play online.
You're getting the same effect with pirating a game, therefore the used games market for PC games is tiny.

It looks like people can still trade with used games for one more generation, but after that 90% of all sales will be digital through the major services and that will be the end of used games anyway.

I have a question. If physical copy of games are sold for $60 and that includes shipping and middle man profit, then why does digital download cost the same when there's no physical copies or middle man? This industry is BS and they have been authentic pied pipers luring money out of our wallets with half a***d games that we have to pay more to get it complete.

This is exactly why I am hesitant as hell to be excited for all digital or a used games ban, or at least the main reason. On PC there are many different avenues to purchase digital content. On consoles you have PSN, XBL, and the e-Shop or whatever Nintendo has. There is no reason to have the incredible sales PC digital games see or hell even retail console games.

Don't be naive?  Call of Duty is the perfect example of people buying a game.

1 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 X360 2011 Shooter Activision 9.24 4.10 0.12 1.43 14.89
2 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 PS3 2011 Shooter Activision 5.47 4.71 0.47 2.02 12.67
3 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 PC 2011 Shooter Activision 0.37 0.93 0.00 0.26 1.56
4 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Wii 2011 Shooter Activision 0.38 0.16 0.00 0.06 0.60
5 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: Defiance DS 2011 Shooter Activision 0.15 0.02 0.00 0.02 0.19

P.S. modern Warfare 3 is $35 to $40
