Forums - Politics Discussion - Will the equalitarian movement begin the next Great War.

The rise of the equalitarian movement has been at the forefront of the news lately especially with gay marriage.  But the movement has been around for a long time and seems to have struck a cord within the Democratic Party.  My concern with the movement is that at its basic nature it sounds wonderful and offers a very appealing platform --- we are all equal and no one should ever be denied rights that another person has.  It sounds great and as a person with libertarian ideas myself I believe in this core principle.  But, we are seeing the movement push the dark side of equalitarianism in which it is not enough for people to be treated as equals but the outcome of treating people as equals must also be equal.  In other words, if two people of different race or different faith are both given equal opportunity but the outcome doesn't result in equal results the system must be fixed so that the one who failed is allowed to achieve the same end result.

I am worried this philosophy is driving a wedge in our society that could eventually lead to the next Great War.  How much longer will people be willing to accept that no matter how different we all are, our outcomes will be the same.  It doesn't take much to spark a war, and with immigration reform and gun control on the hot button right now one over reaching move could be the catalyst.  Anyone have an opinion on the equalitarian movement? I'd like to hear others thoughts.

I guess you are saying that, for example, it is a problem when/if handicapped people or women are having less requirements to become firemen, policemen, soldiers, etc?

Can't say that I disagree, but I wouldn't say that this is a major issue. Let alone something that could start a war.

Now, the gun control issue on the other hand...

I fully agree that it's a problem, but I don't think it'll cause a war.

I think it'll become the norm in most countries (just look at how popular the idea is nowadays), but a few countries will resist. I have no delusions about Britain being one of those countries, unfortunately. Hopefully there will be some with a decent standard of living, and hopefully there can be peace between the two sides.

Are you saying it is just one step away from Communism?

It's hard to say and I think that is what concerns me.  A lot of the spokespersons for the democratic party are essentially socialists (although they have replaced that word with progressive the end goal still seems to be the same- greater government influence and security over the community.

I thought it was rather disturbing when MSNBC Melissa H Perry did a recent promo announcing that your children are not yours.  Both sides of the argument seemed to enjoy spingging her promo into what she really meant but I was simply more concerned that at the root of her argument was that communities should play a greater role in the influence of our children because those children eventually need to contribute to the greater good of society.  To Melissa and many equaltarians community isn't defiend as your neighbor it is defined as your government so when we she says community her idea of what community is very different to what most think of as a community.

I guess what I am saying is that at it's heart equaltarianism may have good ideas but when corrupted it can lead to ideas such as communism in order to implement its goals of equality.

That's one my greater concerns, an equaltarian movement that rallied around the idea that in order for everyone to have equal access to freedom guns must be removed from society.  I'm not a gun owner but I respect the rights of my neighbors to carry firearms because I know them and i trust them to make good decisions for their families.  I could see an unfortunate situation in the future where governement would attmept to seize guns and law enforcement and citizens are pitted against one another and shots are fired.

This whole equality thing is just pure lunacy.

We aren't born with equality -
Intelligence, Physique, Beauty, Class, Personality, etc.

Time to start realizing this and stop promoting an "Everyone is a winner" mentality in a Capitalist society.
No more trophies for "Participant". There are winners and losers in this World. It's a competitive market and the weak will perish.

That said, I think programs which attempt to aid less fortunate people are good. Money should have no impact upon education level.

heh, quite ironic that you have a loser as your avatar

Sorry man, but the moment you said 'Libertarian', you pretty much explained why 'equality' is such a terrifying word for you. Equality to normal people means a lack of inconsistency between normal things that often are basic rights. Those who automatically jump to the idea that equality starts coming close to communism seriously need to understand that the US could never, ever end up a communist state without some pretty huge modifications. Also, Democrats aren't communists, as much as people want to believe that. I'm not even an American and I know that.

Besides, you guys have a LOT more things to worry about than screeching about equality. You're starting to fall behind in technology. You're building up your military for styles of war that don't exist any more. Your infrastructure is so spotty that they now figure the power grid is safe from attack just because it's so shoddy (that's a thing). There's a thousand problems that BOTH sides of your government can't fix and I'd be far more concerned about those.

Ain't we pretty much moving to a more equal society anyway? With anti-discrimination laws, equal pay, laws to protect women and stuff like that.

It would be better for an anti war movement to come place. So much is wasted. People, resources and everything is just wasted and for what? We could achieve so much more with peace and diplomacy. Sometimes, i do wonder how much more advanced our race would be if we didn't fight each other over the dumbest shit.
