Do kids trivialise murder when they use it the same way?

I agree with the guy who says it's not related to the actual activity, much like "retard."

Doesn't make it any less unpleasant to hear, but it's become disconnected.

I do think words like "rape" or "gay" are used far too frequently by kids playing game, however I used these words when I was 12-13 years old and playing games, and I haven't raped anyone... curl-6 is right, its not related to the actual activity, its just not nice to hear it.

The worst thing i hear people say is that someone raped their childhood when talking about entertainment, for example when certain people say George Lucas is raping their childhood because of the changes he made to the original Star Wars trilogy. It is disgusting and trivializing something horrible

There are far more important things to address about rape culture than this, i would say. Given that, used in this context, it's almost completely detached from any sort of sex act, it's really just a turn of phrase.

"gay" and "retarded" are a bit different in that case, because (nominally) you're trying to demean something by comparing it to homosexuals or the mentally disabled.

Desensitivity to the word is an issue. BUT...

 

Note one of the definitions of the word "rape":
