Forums - Gaming Discussion - Bioshock Infinite "motion sickness"? Or did I eat something disagreeable?

I have motion sickness with all first person shooters and with all the games that have a horrible unstable frame rate.
But its different for each game. The first Bioshock i can play for more than 40 minutes without a problem, but Half-Life2, my worst case, i cant play for more than 15 minutes, even forcing v-sync through the GPU. If i play Half-Life 2 for more than 25 minutes i have a violent headache.

I used to have this problem with the original Doom.

First I'd see demons, then vapor trails, and then my last meal in the toilet.

I had it in Saints Row 3, in the part where you where in a mission naked and druged with the lights blinking rapidly. I swear I though I alost had eplipcy. Never picked up the game again.

The only game I ever had motion sickness was Super Mario Galaxy.

For some reason, I fine with everything else.

it's possible, I've seen others have it with this game.

This game has a ton of different kind of blur in the background. On Pc there's like 3-4 different kinds and DoF, and I disabled all of them. Also this games uses a lot of bloom which can amplify issues with said effects.

This game has the traditional culprits of head bobbing, and on console atleast low Field of View. Which are both known to cause motion sickness in various games for a small amount of people.

All in all this would seem like a game that would be one of the games more likely to cause motion sickness. And since you're playing it on console, I'm not sure what options there are to modify.

I think the more FPS games you play, you'll eventually get over it.

I remember playing Left 4 Dead 2 on the PC would get me a little dizzy, but I think that was just because I wasn't accustomed to the fast frame rate and I didn't play it much.

Have you ever played doom 64 i can,t play for more than 15 minutes

I used to get this pretty badly, though not very much anymore as I've grown more used to first-person games. I'm not sure why Infinite in particular would trigger it for you.

As a few tips:

1) Try not to play when you're very tired
2) Drink plenty of water before and during your playtime
3) Increase the FOV as far as it will go.
4) Don't crouch.

I didn't get full motion sickness from Bioshock infinite but it is certainly one of the more uncomfortable experiences recently. The problem is the partly with all the motion and dof blur effects, blurry heavily bloomed backgrounds do not give you a clear horizon. Plus the game goes out of its way to constantly shake your camera view when you get hit. It's he worst when I'm not exactly looking where I'm going on a skyhook ride, very disorienting.
