Forums - Gaming Discussion - Microsoft pushed back next Xbox reveal because it's not afraid of PS4?

Seems like I see more speculative stories about the neXbox (though many are negative...) than the PS4. For something that hasn't even been announced, that's something. I think this PS4 momentum, while actual, has been exaggerated.

Don't look ay this as arrogance, folks. Lets see what they have first.

I don't believe this May 21st rumor that the article is based off.

In addition there is no advantage in pushing back the date unless the original show didn't have enough content.

I'm going to guess they did have content, but not enough to really wow gamers, at least compared to the PS4 announcements of late.  They may have also wanted to finalize the console case, so they could actually show the console.  Maybe poke a little fun at Sony for not doing so.  Not that anyone really cares about that.  And the only way they couldn't be worried about the PS4 is if they have kept there eyes and ears closed, ignoring all the backlash the NeXbox has gotten and praise the PS4 has gotten.  Either that or they truly believe people are going to gobble up a NeXbox that is a jack of all trades, but most likely a master of none.

This actually kinda implies that microsoft is aiming for a wii-like console.
If sony having amazing hardware didn't scare them, then that means they're not focused on hardware.

This really doesn't make much sense. However weak/strong Sony's PS4 reveal was, what matters is that people know its coming. Sony was first to announce and will probably be first to put up for pre-order.

If Microsoft pushed back their reveal its because they FEEL PRESSURE from Sony to get it perfect. Maybe they're waiting until they finalize the console design. The main complaint about PS4 was that we didn't see the console. Surely Microsoft took notes and "Show The Console" is high up on their list.

Seems like the media is trying to make a story out of nothing. It doesn't actually matter when the console is revealed to the public, it only matters when it's going to release. When both the consoles come out, and they're on the store shelves side by side, nobody is going to think, "Oh, but I knew about the PS4 first, so that's what I'll buy!" The consoles will sell off their own merits, the Xbox doing well or poorly will have nothing to do with when the PS4 was revealed.

Why would they push back an announcement if there was no pressure? It seems to me if you are comfortable with what you have, you go ahead with the (rumored) original announcement date.

On the other hand, if you feel changes need to be made, then you are forced to delay your announcement.

Well in my case learning about ps4 first has pretty much gained my hype and my purchase already,

while all this waiting for the nextbox reveal and the always online rumors which Ms still hasnt answered has pretty much lost my interest.

this coming from a 360 fan..

I would assume they mean no pressure to rush to announce the hardware. I'm not saying the PS4 announcement was premature, but they didn't even have a console to show.

I'm just basing my opinion on the part that said, "saw little competitive pressure from Sony."  If there is no pressure from a competitive standpoint, you just announce your great news and crush them.  The only other thing that makes sense to me is that the rumored announcement date was just wrong.
