that's a lot for both, really not many households left to sell some wii or 360 consoles to.

360 will have NA and UK while PS3 will have Europe as a whole and possibly Japan by the time the 7th gen is done, and yet Wii could still hold on overall. Very strange indeed.

Didn't Sega lead in europe back in the 3rd and 4th gen?

In any way the gap is so small at now, that it doesn't matter. Even if it is behind in other trackers, it may not take long now.

Looks like USA next (~1.5m on the numbers we have here) then 3.5m for PS3 to overtake it in Europe and Japan. Can't see Japan going to be honest, but Europe might by 2014.
