Forums - Sony Discussion - What do Sony fans think of the PS3 hardware?

Would you have changed something of the PS3 hardware?

It's perfect, I wouldn'... 54 14.48%

Cell 39 10.46%

Memory architecture 88 23.59%

RSX 11 2.95%

Blu Ray 6 1.61%

More than one thing but not everything. 50 13.40%

PS3 was a disaster. Everything. 84 22.52%

See results. 41 10.99%

Total:373

The only thing that needed to be done was for Sony to have dropped it sooner and replaced it with a newer console. Mines be gathering dust for 24 months now because it is just too damn old.

i would have cut corners to reduce the price but i would have left the hardware itself as it is. it did deliver the best graphics this generation

in fact this was the first generation that the playstation did that

multiplatform games "suffering", save for literally a couple of games, was the biggest exageration I've ever heard in gaming, why should i care about something i don't notice ?

And then there's the RAM. 256mb fixed for both system and gpu was a very stupid move, and they should have gone with a shared memory system.

Well thank god that didn't happen then

It's funny, 11 votes to "PS3 was a disaster. Everything" in less than 30 seconds. One guy has too much time and knows how to use proxies.

Probably because hes "Always Online"

Lot of things, Cell and memory probably being worst offenders. Really glad they get their act together with PS4.

So I guess this thread didn't help you with your crusade against the PS fans and how unreasonable they are about PS3 and PS4 architecture, did it?

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

I don't have a crusade against the reasonable PS fans, I have a crusade against the unreasonable PS fanboys. There is a big difference.

This thread results would have been very different just one year ago, anyone who has been on this forum for more than one year would see it. Don't you remember the "Developers are lazy" threads? Why didn't Sony fans said "Sony made mistakes on the hardware department, and that's why this happens"? No, the most repeated thing was "Take a look at Naughty Dog, take a look at Guerrilla" that develop only for one console and with huge budgets to showcase the console. That's why I say that most fanbases defend everything their beloved companies do, most of the time without knowing what they are talking about.

What people are saying now is what some of us have been saying since 2007-2008, now is the politically correct thing to say, but then it was not.

Definitely memory architecture

The split memory caused inferior multiplats and issues with Bethesda's engine.

well, when you had such a difference between first party PS3 games and ports it would be safe to say that yeah, developers were lazy indeed.

you know that the trade off for unified ram would be a slower ram

What are you talking about? PS3 basically has half the system memory available that the 360 has.

360 total ram: 522MB, PS3 total ram: 512MB

but the big thing is that the 360 GPU can use 300+MB of that, while the PS3 GPU is limited to 256MB
