Forums - Gaming Discussion - Girl gamers like the same games as men.

I've seen two threads like this in the last week about how kinect and now the move are for girl gamers......Im sure you all have seen plenty of casual guy gamers.  I don't know what it is about gamers that thinks women don't play games just like men but they do. Not only are they shunned from playing online because of some kind of harassment (Usually sexual harassment) but many people consider them not as much of a gamer as men. Wrong.

Hardcore girl gamers typically like the same games that male hardcore gamers like. You know women and men really arent all that different like some of you guys are acting like(this goes for the real world outside of games as well). Guys play casual games just like girls do, and girls play hardcore games like men do.

Sony - Will have Hardcore and casual games for different audiences.
MSFT - Will have hardcore and casual games for different audiences.
Nintendo - Will have hardcore and casual games for different audiences.

Men - Like hardcore and Casual experiences
Women - Like hardcore and casual experiences.

Women and Men believe it or not are very much alike personality wise.  Physically we may be different but our personalities are human on both sides.

Anyway, it's American time for go to bed and I need to go to bed. Also, you are American, why aren't you in bed and/or playing a game?

I don't know if, statistically, men and women are buying and playing the same games, but women are certainly a big part of the gaming community -- 47% in 2011 according to ESA.

In any event, female video game fans should be given the same opportunities and freedoms that male video game fans enjoy. They certainly shouldn't be considered second-class citizens. There are some industry veterans who are pushing this agenda forward -- Bonnie Ross and Kiki Wolfkill come to mind -- but there are many others who either ignore the problem or aggravate it.

And what games do boy gamers like?

There are definitely differences in what games my wife and I like. Nothing to do with hardcore or casual. Everquest is about the most hardcore game I've ever played, and that's where I first met her.
Nowadays she mostly plays on Facebook with her friends, while I'm more into single player games. I played Frontierville too for a while but lost interest. We both like co-op in for example LBP and Mario, not shooters. Portal 2 didn't work out either.

So yes there are differences but we both like hardcore and casual games.

You'd be surprised the things men and women share that you don't expect.

There is the same type of strain in the creative industry too when it comes to videogame art and design. After all, boobs sell, but it's not every girl cup to wants to draw sexy bare breasts, guns, creatures and machines all the time... though I know of quite a few girls who draw for a for-fun pinup artblog that I am connected with. A lot of those same girls are avid gamers.

Our taste appreciations of things may vary some, but we are extended across all genres. We still play a lot of the same games... same with art, we have a higher tolerance for cutesy style probably moreso than the men, but then again there are a ton of men who will play those type of games also and I've even noticed some people here with 'cutesy' avatars you would normally more or less associate with girls. However, they don't receive a "stigma" for it afaik.

I knew plenty of girls that played that game early in my pre-teens. Most of them were into RPG's, Zelda, Capcom, things like that... it's hard to remember now since that was so long ago. Personally, I never got into EQ, mostly I could never convince my parent's to ever pay a subscription of any kind. I did play Ragnarok Online when it was Beta/Alpha... I didn't think that was too hard though I was always got lost in the game with trying to find the NPCs to "progress" that I lost patience... that and the server problems, having your progress lost. I can't remember if there was a server/design issue that made me stop playing. I've been playing since NES era. My conservative family used to worry I was a lesbian because I didn't wanna play with Barbies, and that I was more interested getting dirty with the boys and playing videogames way too much. lol I had a few friends who were girls growing up that would play games with me too... best memories.

I dunno. Can't imagine many women playing Senran Kagura games.

I've played Demon's Souls and Dark Souls with my girlfriend, mainly alternating depending on who was in the mood to grind souls or sharpstones. She basically did Firelurker alone, same as King Alant and a lot of other bosses in our playthroughs.

After that she's completed Bioshock 1 & 2 (games into which I never could get, sadly), Dishonored, Infamous 1 & 2 (pretty nice way of doing the good / evil trophies), God of War 3, Mass Effect 1 - 3 (with which she's crazy in love), Dragon Age 1 & 2, Red Dead Redemption and we regularly play Burnout Paradise City. Whenever I see someone say that girls don't play games, I send them to have a word with her.

Would be nice if the industry at large would stop treating the gamer audience as a separation between male and female. Would also be nice if a lot of male gamers would stop treating gaming as their own private treehouse with no girls allowed...it's a bit creepy.
